An event‐based magnetoencephalography study of simulated driving: Establishing a novel paradigm to probe the dynamic interplay of executive and motor function

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 44, Issue 5, Page 2109-2121, April 1, 2023., 2023
This study describes a new approach: a novel event‐based simulated drive made operational via magnetoencephalography compatible driving simulator hardware, paired with differential beamformer methods to characterize the neural correlates of realistic, complex motor activity. This paradigm is validated by expected primary beta and gamma motor responses.

Mapping Interictal activity in epilepsy using a hidden Markov model: A magnetoencephalography study

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 44, Issue 1, Page 66-81, January 2023., 2023
In this study, we use hidden Markov modeling (HMM) to create a unique statistical model of interictal brain activity for 10 pediatric epilepsy patients. This data‐driven model produces an output unique to each patient, and is used to localize the epileptogenic area(s).

Bipedalism or bipedalisms: The os coxae of StW 573

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 248, Issue 2, Page 163-183, February 2026.
There has been a long debate about the possibility of multiple contemporaneous species of Australopithecus in both eastern and southern Africa, potentially exhibiting different forms of bipedal locomotion. Here, we describe the previously unreported morphology of the os coxae in the 3.67 Ma Australopithecus prometheus StW 573 from Sterkfontein Member 2

Can Macroevolution Inform Contemporary Extinction Risk?

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2025.
We investigate the underlying assumptions of the idea that macroevolutionary indicators for large groups of species, such as rates of extinction, diversification or niche evolution, can inform species' current and future extinction risk status. We find that only past extinction rates can be reliable predictors of current extinction risk as the same ...
