Belief Propagation in Networks of Spiking Neurons [PDF]

open access: yesNeural Computation, 2009
From a theoretical point of view, statistical inference is an attractive model of brain operation. However, it is unclear how to implement these inferential processes in neuronal networks. We offer a solution to this problem by showing in detailed simulations how the belief propagation algorithm on a factor graph can be embedded in a network of ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Derived dynamic scheduling for belief propagation decoding of LDPC codes

open access: yesElectronics Letters
Among numerous dynamic scheduling strategies for low‐density parity‐check codes, many of them are of high complexity due to repetitive computation and ordering of belief residuals.

Novel Belief Propagation Algorithm for Stereo Matching With a Robust Cost Computation

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Stereo matching is a challenging problem in the field of computer vision and has recently received extensive attention. However, the traditional methods are labor intensive and premised on specific conditions.

Belief propagation generalizes backpropagation

open access: yesCoRR, 2022
The two most important algorithms in artificial intelligence are backpropagation and belief propagation. In spite of their importance, the connection between them is poorly characterized. We show that when an input to backpropagation is converted into an input to belief propagation so that (loopy) belief propagation can be run on it, then the result of

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Augmented decoders for LDPC codes

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2018
The performance of a belief propagation decoder for low-density parity-check codes is limited by the presence of trapping sets in the code’s graph. This leads to an error floor at higher signal-to-noise ratios.

Exploiting degeneracy in belief propagation decoding of quantum codes

open access: yesnpj Quantum Information, 2022
Quantum information needs to be protected by quantum error-correcting codes due to imperfect physical devices and operations. One would like to have an efficient and high-performance decoding procedure for the class of quantum stabilizer codes.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.
