Development of Heat Engines Powered by Twisted and Coiled Polymer Fiber Actuators
Continuously rotating engines driven by thermally responsive actuating materials can turn waste heat into useful energy. For the first time heat engines operated by twisted and coiled polymer fiber actuators are demonstrated with engine design guided by two simple analytical models.

Lattice Boltzmann Models with Mid-Range Interactions \ud \ud [PDF]
An extension of the standard Shan-Chen model for non ideal-fluids, catering for mid-range, soft-core and hard-core repulsion, is investigated. It is shown that the inclusion of such mid-range interactions does not yield any visible enhancement of the ...

A soft robotic simulator is developed to replicate the digital removal of feces (DRF), a sensitive yet essential nursing procedure. Integrating soft actuators, sensors, and a realistic rectal model, the simulator balances functional fidelity with perceptual realism. Engineering evaluations and nurse feedback confirm its potential to enhance training in

Phase separation and folding in swelled nematoelastic films
We explore reshaping of nematoelastic films upon imbibing an isotropic solvent under conditions when isotropic and nematic phases coexist. The structure of the interphase boundary is computed taken into account the optimal nematic orientation governed by

Ecosystem‐Centered Robot Design: Toward Ecoresorbable Sustainability Robots (ESRs)
Robots exploring natural ecosystems can support monitoring and conservation, but must adopt ecosystem‐centered design to avoid pollution, waste, and damage. This review proposes guidelines for co‐designing ecoresorbable sustainability robots (ESRs), uniting materials, robotics, and ecological contexts in a single framework.

Euler’s belt formula for a fixed circular drum is well known and is an important formula for mechanical engineers. However, there is little book in which belt equation for a drum of any contour is discussed precisely.

Moisture movement in bulk stockpiles [PDF]
Both drainage and evaporation are possible mechanisms for moisture loss in iron-ore and coal stockpiles. Some simple models are used to study both these mechanisms for various stages of stockpiling.

Shear Banding from lattice kinetic models with competing interactions
Soft Glassy Materials, Non Linear Rheology, Lattice Kinetic models, frustrated phase separation} We present numerical simulations based on a Boltzmann kinetic model with competing interactions, aimed at characterizating the rheological properties of soft-

A document analysis of the visibility of sustainability in TVE teacher education programme: the case of a Malaysian HEI [PDF]
There has been a global call for institutions of learning to engage in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) by leading world organisations. Although scholars advocate for an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability, the research literature ...
