Temperature and Farm Labor in Nigeria
ABSTRACT We estimate the impact of temperature shocks on the composition of farm labor in rural Nigeria using a nationally representative household panel survey. Leveraging plausibly exogenous year‐to‐year variation in growing season temperatures, we find that warmer temperatures significantly alter farm labor composition, prompting a substantial shift

Direct visualization of Euler’s belt theory by Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry
Rope-based mechanisms are widely utilized in elevators, cranes, and ship moorings. At the root of these are often Euler’s belt theory, in which a rope is wound around a fixed pulley and frictional force is said to increase exponentially with the winding ...

Tensioning of a belt around a drum using membrane element [PDF]
An application of the membrane element to the problem of the tensioning of a conveyer belt which wraps around a drum is presented. Two cases were investigated: (1) belt tension increase due to drum edge wear; and (2) material trapped between the drum and

Mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann modeling of soft-glassy systems: theory and simulations
A multi-component lattice Boltzmann model recently introduced (R. Benzi et al. Phys. Rev. Lett 102, 026002 (2009)) to describe some dynamical behaviors of soft-flowing materials is theoretically analyzed.

Driving control strategy of intermediate unloading long distance belt conveyor
In view of problems such as roller skidding, belt jumping, belt loosening, material stacking, unbalanced power loads in the middle and head motors, which may occur when driving control of the intermediate unloading belt conveyor is controlled improperly,

Curved Graphene Nanoribbons: Structure and Dynamics of Carbon Nanobelts
Carbon nanoribbons (CNRs) are graphene (planar) structures with large aspect ratio. Carbon nanobelts (CNBs) are small graphene nanoribbons rolled up into spiral-like structures, i. e., carbon nanoscrolls (CNSs) with large aspect ratio.

ABSTRACT Natural fiber composites offer sustainable alternatives to synthetic materials but need performance enhancement for structural applications. This study investigates the mechanical behavior of jute fiber–reinforced epoxy composites modified with alumina–silica hybrid fillers at varying compositions and loadings.

Abstract Invasive gray squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) have replaced the native red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) across much of Great Britain over the last century. Several factors have been proposed to underlie this replacement, but here we investigated the potential for dietary competition in which gray squirrels have better feeding performance than ...
