Power Transmission by Belting

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1940
During experimental work on flexible belts running on pulleys of small diameter, the loss of speed of the follower arising from the elasticity of the belt was observed to be considerably greater than would be normally expected. It was also noticed that this loss of speed depended on the mean tension of the belt and the diameter of the pulley.

An Automatic V-Belt Transmission With an Asymmetrical Belt

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1973
A variable speed, V-belt transmission in which the belt has an asymmetrical cross-section was studied. The sliding sheaves adjust automatically to varying torque and speed requirements. A complete theoretical and experimental analysis was carried out and design equations derived were found to accurately predict performance in these drives.

Technology assessment: energy-efficient belt transmissions

Energy and Buildings, 1995
Abstract Belt transmissions are widely used in industry and in commercial buildings to couple electric motors with a wide variety of loads. In order to ensure reliable performance and optimize the overall efficiency of motor drives, it is important to select the most suitable belt transmission for each particular application.

Double Helical Synchronous Belt Transmission Design

Materials Science Forum, 2014
The meshing impact noise caused by the gradually engagement between double helical synchronous belt and the pulley was reduced due to its spiral angle effect. Therefore, double helical synchronous belt transmission receives much concern with its excellent characteristics of de-noising, low transmission error and high carrying capacity.

Tension in a flat belt transmission: Experimental investigation

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2013
Abstract In this paper we report the results of an experimental investigation aimed at determining the tension variation in a flat belt transmission. The belt tension was obtained by measuring its deformation with electrical resistance strain gauges. The investigation results are preceded by a reference to the belt transmission theory, in particular ...
