Stiffness moduli in triaxial tests on a loess-sand mixture [PDF]
Stiffness is one of the most important characteristics of geomaterials, and at the same time one of the most difficult to evaluate. It can be described by means of various stress-strain moduli, whose values strongly depend on the strain range and on the ...

A series of undrained cyclic triaxial and bender element tests are carried out on sandy soils with three different particle size ratios by using the GDS cyclic triaxial apparatus with bender elements.

EFFECT OF ALIGNMENT ON THE QUALITY OF BENDER ELEMENT PROCEDURE
One of the main geophysical tools (seismic tools) in the laboratory is the bender element. This tool can be used to measure some dynamic soil properties (e.g. shear and Young’s modulus). However, even if it relatively simple to use the bender element, inconsistent testing procedures can cause poor quality in the bender element data.

The bender element (BE) test is widely employed in geotechnical engineering for measuring the shear wave velocity (Vs) and, consequently, the small-strain shear modulus (G0), due to its ease of application, integration into geotechnical devices, and ...

Evaluation of the Stiffness of a Synthetic Soft Rock using Bender Elements
Significant strength and stiffness come from the intact structure of soft rock, however, conventional drilling, sampling and extraction disturbs the material structure and results in a under representation of measured parameters.

The effects of internal erosion on granular soils used in transport embankments
The flooding of embankments used for rail and other infrastructure has the potential to cause lasting weakening of slopes via the movement of fine particles induced by seepage.

Small-strain stiffness of liquefiable sands: A comparison between bender elements and resonant-column tests [PDF]
Soil stiffness can be estimated by geophysical and dynamic testing methods. In the laboratory, the most common methods to measure the small-strain stiffness are the bender elements (BE) and resonant-column (RC) tests. This paper focuses on the comparison
