Mia Flores lives in rural Joshua Tree, California, with her immigrant father. When she is sixteen, her father is forced to find alternative work and secures summer housing for Mia with an All- American family in Bend, Oregon. In a small, unsuspecting town, Mia is forced to explore her preconceived notions about how the better half lives under the ...

It is widely assumed that peripheral membrane proteins induce intracellular membrane curvature by the asymmetric insertion of a protein segment into the lipid bilayer, or by imposing shape by adhesion of a curved protein domain to the membrane surface. Two papers now provide convincing evidence challenging these views.

We present BEND, a MAC layer solution to practical network coding in multi-hop wireless networks. It is the first exploration of the broadcasting nature of wireless channels to proactively capture more coding opportunities. In BEND, any node can code and forward a packet even when the node is not the intended MAC receiver of the packet, if the node ...

Abstract Bende (Sibhende [síβendé]) is a Bantu language (Niger-Congo phylum) spoken mainly in the Katavi region in western Tanzania, known as F12 in Guthrie’s reference classification. It is sometimes called Tongwe-Bende, since both ethnic groups are closely related linguistically, not to mention their cultural common ground.

Although Kirschner wires are useful implants in many situations, migration of the wire and irritation of the surrounding soft tissues are common complications. Seven steps are described herein, which result in a Kirschner wire that is bent 180° angle, providing a smooth anchor into bone.

The paper is concerned with the numeric procedure in plate bending. For numeric procedure the finite element method is used. Calibration force is determined when bending force and calibration coefficient are known. The calibration coefficient is determined by experiment.
