Vision loss with bending over

Survey of Ophthalmology, 2015
A 66-year-old African American man presented with episodic transient visual loss triggered by bending forward. The initial examination did not suggest intraocular pathology and the patient was nearly sent for vascular evaluation given his cardiovascular risk factors.

Holey Fibers for Low Bending Loss

IEICE Transactions on Electronics, 2006
We have developed a novel type of holey fiber which has a conventional raised-index core surrounded by two layers of air holes with different sizes. The fiber has single-mode operation and shows a low bending loss even for an extremely small bending diameter and a low splicing loss for fusion splicing to a conventional single-mode fiber.

Low-loss semiconductor waveguide bends

Optics Letters, 1988
An experimental comparison is made between the losses of waveguide bends in disorder-delineated waveguides in semiconductor superlattices composed of GaAs and AlAs layers for simple abrupt bends and abrupt bends with an additional half-angle guiding wall proposed by Shiina et al. [Opt. Lett. 11, 736 (1986)].

Pressure losses in microchannels with bends

Technical Digest. MEMS 2001. 14th IEEE International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (Cat. No.01CH37090), 2002
Bends in fluidic systems are necessary features due to design or technology constraints. Bends or curves in a duct always induce flow separation at the walls, which results in additional pressure loss. In this work, this phenomenon is investigated on a microscale.
