Comparison of Endoscopic Ultrasound‐guided Tissue Acquisition and Percutaneous Liver Biopsy for Diagnosing Focal Liver Lesions: A Retrospective Single‐Center Study

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim Accurate diagnosis of focal liver lesions (FLLs) is crucial for determining the appropriate treatment strategies. Although percutaneous liver biopsy (PLB) is the standard diagnostic procedure, it has limitations, particularly for difficult‐to‐access lesions.

Distal Bile Duct Metastasis From Rectal Cancer: The Diagnostic Contribution of Intraductal Ultrasonography

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT A 49‐year‐old male developed liver dysfunction during chemotherapy for rectal cancer located in the rectosigmoid region. Although magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography initially indicated sclerosing cholangitis, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and intraductal ultrasonography revealed multiple non‐contiguous intraductal ...

A Clinical Scoring Model to Predict Post‐Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography Pancreatitis in Biliary Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography for Patients With Intact Papilla: A Large Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives The risk of post‐endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis (PEP) needs to be predicted in order to take adequate preventive measures in individual cases. The aim of this study was to develop a clinical prediction rule for PEP in biliary ERCP for patients with intact papilla.

Efficacy of the Stent‐in‐Stent Technique as a Rescue Method for Removing Embedded Metallic Biliary Stents

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
The stent‐in‐stent technique involves placing another fully covered metal stent inside an irremovable embedded stent to compress tissue and enable safe removal. In this study of 17 patients, the overall technical success rate was 76.5%, with higher efficacy via EUS‐guided hepaticogastrostomy (100%) and transpapillary routes (80%).

Clinical Efficacy of Endoscopic Treatment for Benign Colorectal Stricture: Balloon Dilatation versus Stenting

open access: yesGut and Liver, 2015
Background/AimsThere has been a lack of research comparing balloon dilatation and self-expandable metal stent (SEMS) placement to determine which is better for long-term clinical outcomes in patients with benign colorectal strictures. We aimed to compare

Long‐term Outcomes of Intraductal Fully Covered Self‐Expandable Metal Stents for Anastomotic Biliary Strictures After Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Clinical and Economic Evaluation

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
In this single‐center retrospective study of anastomotic biliary strictures after living donor liver transplantation, intraductal fully covered self‐expandable metal stents (ID‐FCSEMSs) achieved durable stricture resolution with low restenosis. Compared with multiple plastic stents, ID‐FCSEMS were associated with fewer late biliary complications and a ...

Five Cases of Hepatic Mesenchymal Tumors Diagnosed by Endoscopic Ultrasound‐Guided Tissue Acquisition

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Percutaneous biopsy remains the gold standard for diagnosing focal liver lesions; however, endoscopic ultrasound‐guided tissue acquisition (EUS‐TA) has recently emerged as a promising alternative. Although its diagnostic performance is favorable, most available evidence has focused on epithelial tumors, and reports on mesenchymal tumors are ...
