BenthiCat: An opti-acoustic dataset for advancing benthic classification and habitat mapping
Benthic habitat mapping is fundamental for understanding marine ecosystems, guiding conservation efforts, and supporting sustainable resource management. Yet, the scarcity of large, annotated datasets limits the development and benchmarking of machine learning models in this domain. This paper introduces a thorough multi-modal dataset, comprising about

ABSTRACT Anthropogenic activities generate a significant amount of pollutants that are released into the environment, causing physiological and ecological disturbances. Among the xenobiotics present in aquatic ecosystems, numerous chemical and organic compounds have oxidative potential or are metabolized through oxidative processes, which may amplify ...

ABSTRACT Environmental pollution resulting from the rapid increase in human population, urbanization, intensive use of chemicals in agriculture, and industrial development has reached a level that threatens natural life today. Trace elements are one of the most important factors causing significant levels of pollution in the environment and are added ...

Remote Sensing Reveals Multidecadal Trends in Coral Cover at Heron Reef, Australia
Coral reefs are experiencing increasing disturbance regimes. The influence these disturbances have on coral reef health is traditionally captured through field-based monitoring, representing a very small reef area (

Freshwater turtles play vital roles in maintaining the health of aquatic ecosystems by supporting ecological balance, nutrient cycling and regulating prey populations. Unfortunately, they are among the most threatened species worldwide. Habitat fragmentation, illegal trade, overharvesting for meat, and use in ethnomedicinal practices have severely ...

Using radiotelemetry, we found that the movement and home range of the endangered Sacalia bealei varied significantly across reproductive classes and seasons, with males exhibiting greater movement than females during wet and mating seasons. The species exhibits strong aquatic dependence, favoring deep pools interspaced among riffle‐pool sequences ...

Nesting ecology of an ice‐associated seabird, Kittlitz's murrelet, at the northern edge of its range
We studied the Kittlitz's murrelet, an ice‐associated seabird of conservation concern, at the northern edge of its range. Over a 2‐year period, we estimated nest density and success at 2 sites, captured and telemetered nesting murrelets, and tested the use of a thermal camera to improve nest detection.
