Feasibility of restoring native oyster reefs in highly modified urban estuaries

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Urbanized estuaries are highly altered systems characterized by modified shorelines, degraded marine habitats, and abundant non‐native species. In South Australia's largest urbanized estuary, community‐based restoration initiatives aim to restore native flat oyster reefs (Ostrea angasi) lost over a century ago.

GIS-based mapping of benthic habitats

Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 2003
The aim of the work was to map and analyse benthic habitats in the Polish zone of the Baltic Sea using the Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The habitats definitions were analogous to those proposed in the HELCOM classification, which is based on two concepts—the euphotic zone has no clearly defined boundaries and the bottom sediments are defined

SkySea: Connecting Satellite, UAV and Underwater Imagery for Benthic Habitat Mapping

Proceedings of the 2023 Workshop on UAVs in Multimedia: Capturing the World from a New Perspective, 2023
Satellite imagery, UAV imagery, and geo-referenced underwater photo transects (from the surface) are different methods used in marine monitoring and benthic habitat mapping applications to collect observations at different spatial scales. There are however challenges in linking them all together to provide fine-grained mapping and analysis for ...

Underwater Hyperspectral Imaging for seafloor and benthic habitat mapping

2018 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea; Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters (MetroSea), 2018
In this work, we present preliminary results of the first application in the Mediterranean Sea of a hyperspectral camera, a device commonly used for satellite or airborne remote sensing, adapted for the underwater environment. The spectral analysis was carried out on hyperspectral images acquired in two different environmental settings in the southern ...
