Understanding the drivers of Atlantic sea scallop distribution and abundance is a priority for fisheries management. While factors influencing scallop habitat selection and recruitment remain poorly understood, the increasing use of optical surveys for ...

Acoustic imagery for benthic habitats mapping and monitoring
Some shallow subtidal marine benthic habitats cannot be well mapped using classical remote sensing techniques such as satellite imagery or aerial photographs. Conversely, sidescan sonar is a very useful tool for mapping subtidal benthic features and monitoring some threatened habitats over small or large areas.

Geomorphic Effects and Habitat Impacts of Large Wood at Restoration Sites in New England
ABSTRACT Large wood (used interchangeably with the term “instream wood”), which refers to trees, logs and other wood within a channel, is beneficial to river ecosystems and is being used more frequently as a component of river restoration projects. We identified metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of large wood to promote ecological and geomorphic ...

ABSTRACT River regulation following damming is often associated with deleterious downstream effects, in large part due to reduced total discharge and disruption of seasonal flooding. These effects would be expected to be exacerbated by drought, particularly extended drought.

Incorporating environmental DNA metabarcoding for improved benthic biodiversity and habitat mapping
Complex coastal seascapes harbor high marine biodiversity from which humans derive numerous ecosystem services. Maps of benthic habitats are important tools used to inform coastal development and conservation efforts. Seafloor imagery is commonly used to

Benthic Habitat Mapping: eCognition Rule Set
This publication consists of a rule set for benthic habitat classification implemented in eCognition (Trimble Navigation Limited). The details of the procedure are described in Parrish et al., 2016: http://www.jcronline.org/doi/abs/10.2112/SI76-017.

ABSTRACT Florida's regulatory framework requires the establishment of minimum flows to protect aquatic ecosystems and water resources from significant harm. One of the primary methods used to evaluate significant harm is assessment of instream habitat, which relies on Habitat Suitability Criteria (HSC) curves that relate flow regimes and habitat ...

ABSTRACT The presumptive standards approach to environmental flows offers a method to develop interim guidelines for ecological and social‐cultural flow needs. The approach is based on deriving acceptable percent‐of‐flow limits based on naturalised flows (the absence of depletion or alteration of flow), and it can be an effective precursor to a full ...
