Impacts of Desalination Brine Discharge on Benthic Ecosystems.

Environmental Science and Technology
Seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination facilities produce freshwater and, at the same time, discharge hypersaline brine that often includes various chemical additives such as antiscalants and coagulants.

Benthic marine litter in the coastal zone of Bejaia (Algeria) as indicators of anthropogenic pollution

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2021
We studied the abundance of seafloor litter in the bay of Bejaia, Algeria, in order to better understand its sources and distribution and provide scientists with the technical basis for further monitoring and reduction measures. Data were collected during trawl surveys dedicated to fishing activity, between 40 and 200m.

The Shallow Benthic Zones: SBZ or SB?

2019
The larger foraminiferal biozonation system currently adopted for shallow-water settings for the Cenozoic Neo-Tethys, namely the Shallow Benthic Zonation as defined by Cahuzac & Poignant (1997) and Serra-Kiel et al. (1998), retains a fundamental ambiguity in the acronym used to abbreviate the biozones.

Demosponge Biodiversity in the Benthic Protection Zone of the Great Australian Bight

Transactions of the Royal Society of South Australia, 2007
SummaryThe Benthic Protection Zone (BPZ) situated in the South Australian section of the Great Australian Bight (GAB) protects marine benthos from anthropogenic disturbances of the sea floor. However, little is known of the marine benthic fauna occurring within the zone.

Ecology of benthic foraminifers in the littoral zone of Iturup Island

Oceanology, 2006
The composition and abundance of present-day benthic foraminifers in the littoral zone of Iturup Island are examined. The littoral zone is surveyed on the sides of both the Sea of Okhotsk and the Pacific Ocean. The greatest species diversity and the maximum foraminifer abundance were observed on the bench and at the sites of attachment of seaweeds and ...

Analysis of a reaction-diffusion benthic-drift model with strong Allee effect growth

, 2020
The dynamics of a reaction-diffusion-advection benthic-drift population model that links changes in the flow regime and habitat availability with population dynamics is studied.

Distribution of Benthic Foraminifera in Littoral Zone of Besant Nagar, Chennai

2021
Foraminifera species found in ocean waters play an important role as pollution indicators as well as ecologically important roles in the carbon cycle in sediment waters. The objective of this study was to explore different species of Foraminifera distributed along the littoral zone of ocean waters of Besant Nagar beach of Chennai.

Production of Benthic Microalgae in the Littoral Zone of a Eutrophic Lake

Oikos, 1971
Primary production by benthic microalgae of the sandy littoral zone in a Danish eutrophic lake, Fures0, was measured by means of the 14C method. Annual potential gross production was calculated as 297 g C m-2, with highest values in July (2,200 mg C m-2 day-'). Annual true gross production was estimated to be 143 g C m-2.

Bathyal zone benthic foraminiferal genera off Northeast Newfoundland

The Journal of Foraminiferal Research, 1981
About 35% of the bathyal zone foraminiferal genera observed on the north east Newfoundland slope and rise, whether arenaceous (43 genera) or calcareous (63) have an average absolute abundance per genus of greater than one specimen per cubic cm of wet sediment.

Reef benthic composition and coral communities at the Wuzhizhou Island in the south China sea: The impacts of anthropogenic disturbance

, 2020
The responses of reef benthic substrata and coral communities to anthropogenic disturbances at the Wuzhizhou Island (WZZ, off the southeast coast of the Hainan Island in the South China Sea) were examined in 2007–2017.
