Westernmost Mediterranean records of three gobiid species (Actinopterygii: Perciformes: Gobiidae) [PDF]
Information on the distribution of small benthic fish such as gobies is sometimes scattered or incomplete. This is probably due to the sampling difficulties involved in the study of these small fishes at depths below those accessible for SCUBA diving ...

Hierarchical Multi-Label Classification with Missing Information for Benthic Habitat Imagery [PDF]
In this work, we apply state-of-the-art self-supervised learning techniques on a large dataset of seafloor imagery, \textit{BenthicNet}, and study their performance for a complex hierarchical multi-label (HML) classification downstream task. In particular, we demonstrate the capacity to conduct HML training in scenarios where there exist multiple ...

Dynamics of a Reaction-Diffusion Benthic-Drift Model with Strong Allee Effect Growth [PDF]
The dynamics of a reaction-diffusion-advection benthic-drift population model that links changes in the flow regime and habitat availability with population dynamics is studied. In the model, the stream is divided into drift zone and benthic zone, and the population is divided into two interacting compartments, individuals residing in the benthic zone ...

Drag Reduction, from Bending to Pruning [PDF]
Most plants and benthic organisms have evolved efficient reconfiguration mechanisms to resist flow-induced loads. These mechanisms can be divided into bending, in which plants reduce their sail area through elastic deformation, and pruning, in which the loads are decreased through partial breakage of the structure.

Improved Benthic Classification using Resolution Scaling and SymmNet Unsupervised Domain Adaptation [PDF]
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) conduct regular visual surveys of marine environments to characterise and monitor the composition and diversity of the benthos. The use of machine learning classifiers for this task is limited by the low numbers of annotations available and the many fine-grained classes involved.

Environmental factors influencing benthic communities in the oxygen minimum zones on the Angolan and Namibian margins [PDF]
Abstract. Thriving benthic communities were observed in the oxygen minimum zones along the southwestern African margin. On the Namibian margin, fossil cold-water coral mounds were overgrown by sponges and bryozoans, while the Angolan margin was characterized by cold-water coral mounds covered by a living coral reef.

An enigmatic Maastrichtian small benthic Foraminifera of the Tarbur Formation (Iran, Zagros zone)
The Maastrichtian carbonates of the Tarbur Formation from the Zagros zone (SW Iran) are very rich in larger Foraminifera. Additionally, smaller benthic Foraminifera occur as well, one of them presented here as Zagrosaria pinnata gen. et sp. nov. It occurs abundantly at the Mandegan section within two levels corresponding to the lower photic zone. Based
