Hydrocyclone performance for bentonite clay purification
Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2020Abstract This work evaluates the performance of commercial hydrocyclone for removing contaminant larger particles (silt fraction) in bentonite clays, which improves its commercial value. A steady-state Eulerian–Eulerian 14-phases CFD model was verified with experimental data.

Role of bentonite clays on cell growth
Chemosphere, 2016Bentonites, naturally occurring clays, are produced industrially because of their adsorbent capacity but little is known about their effects on human health. This manuscript reports on the effect of bentonites on cell growth behaviour. Bentonites collected from India (Bent-India), Hungary (Bent-Hungary), Argentina (Bent-Argentina), and Indonesia (Bent ...

Sorption of Anthocyanins on Bentonite Clay
Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2020Patterns of the static sorption of anthocyanins on bentonite clay are determined. It is found that the approach used for static sorption is an alternative to dynamic solid phase purification on DIAPAK C18 concentrating cartridges. A way of determining the relative sorption capacity of anthocyanins characterized by different structures on bentonite clay

Diffusion of Water in Bentonite Clay
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2013Diffusion of water confined in sodium bentonite clay is studied using the quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) technique. Hydration of bentonite clay is characterized by several methods including X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric measurements.

Structural Investigations on Processed Bentonite Clays
Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society, 1982Two bentonite samples from Gujarat have been investigated for elucidation of their structures and constituents. Physico-chemical analyses and infra-red, X-ray and thermal studies have been carried out, on raw as well as acid treated clay samples, to understand the structural changes on acid treatment of clays. Different degrees of swelling shown by the

Bentonite Clays for Therapeutic Purposes and Biomaterial Design
Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2020Background:Bentonite is a natural clay composed mainly of montmorillonite with other associated minerals such as feldspar, calcite and quartz. Owing to its high cation exchange, large surface area and ability to form thixotropic gels with water and to absorb large quantities of gas, it presents a large medicinal application. Objective:This review ...

Bentonites - Clays for Molecular Engineering
Elements, 2009Smectites are the main components of bentonites; their characteristics define the remarkable range for their uses in industry and technology. Their application depends on their fundamental properties, namely, their atomic structure with a rather flexible crystal lattice, their variable chemical composition, their particle size, and their morphology ...

Industrial clays: kaolin (china clay), ball clay and bentonite
1995Kaolin (or china clay), ball clay and bentonite are the dominant ‘industrial clays’, and are mined for a wide variety of uses (Table 3.1), which exploit the special properties of each of the three clay types: Kaolin (china clay) — is chemically inert and can be prepared as a white powder specified (in part) according to its whiteness and ...

Polymer-treated bentonite clay for chemical-resistant geosynthetic clay liners
Geosynthetics International, 2015ABSTRACT: The purpose of hydraulic barriers, such as geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs), is to isolate waste liquids from the environment. Bentonite clay is widely used in GCLs because of its elevated sealing capacity in the presence of water and its ability to restrict the migration of solutes (chemico-osmotic efficiency or semi-permeable membrane ...

Swell Behavior of Organo Clay and Organo Clay-Bentonite Mixtures
Geo-Congress 2014 Technical Papers, 2014A conventional mineral lining system with a minimal hydraulic conductivity is usually found to exhibit no appreciable sorption capacity against most of the organic contaminants. The widespread occurrence of organic contaminants demands the use of an innovative barrier system to address this problem. Organic modification of clay minerals by ion exchange
