Diversity and spatial and temporal variation of benthic macroinvertebrates with respect to the trophic state of Lake Figueira in the South of Brazil

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2013
Benthic macroinvertebrates are widely used in evaluations of environmental impact and recommended in biomonitoring, but little used in Brazilian lentic environments.

Crop Insurance Design and On‐Farm Risk Adaptation

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The United States spends billions annually on crop insurance premium subsidies, yet the prevailing distance‐based guarantee design unintentionally rewards risk‐taking by linking subsidies to yield variability. We consider a simple redesign: define guarantees in terms of probability so that coverage reflects a consistent likelihood of indemnity.

Climate change and perennial crop production: Evidence of yield impact and adaptation in California

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Perennial crops are economically important. They contribute to food security, providing essential nutrients that are often lacking in annual crops, and provide additional environmental benefits compared with annual crops. Despite their importance, empirical research on the impacts of climate change and adaptation on perennial crops remains ...

Growth dynamics, skeletochronology, and histovariability of the theropod dinosaur Berthasaura leopoldinae

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Osteohistological sampling on different bones of theropod dinosaur documents discrepant age record, growth, and metabolism. This could result unprecise paleobiological inferences if samplings are based on single bones. However, multi‐bone sampling can attenuate these discrepancies, helping to infer growth dynamics and physiology of these extinct ...

Massive populations of the non-indigenous bivalve species Electroma vexillum (Reeve, 1857) and its effects on native phytal benthic communities of tropical coastal reefs

open access: yesDiscover Oceans
The Vulsellidae is a family of marine bivalves distributed worldwide, with several species recognized as invasive. The present study reports, for the first time, a massive population of the vulsellid Electroma vexillum in macroalgae of coastal sandstone ...

Postcranial anatomy and osteohistology of an early prozostrodont cynodont from the Upper Triassic of Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Prozostrodon brasiliensis, a probainognathian cynodont of the clade Prozostrodontia, is recognized as a key taxon for understanding the origin of Mammaliaformes and mammals. Despite detailed investigations of its cranial anatomy, the postcranial skeleton has received comparatively less attention.

Feeding ecology of Bathyraja macloviana (Rajiformes, Arhynchobatidae): a polychaete-feeding skate from the South-west Atlantic

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2005
The present paper analyses the diet, feeding strategy and niche width of B. macloviana in a sector of the Argentinean Continental Shelf (ACS). Individuals (n = 147) were collected from 43 sampling stations in late summer and autumn 2001.

Male reproductive system in stenopodidean shrimps: Unveiling basal reproductive traits in shrimp‐like Pleocyemata (Stenopodidae and Spongicolidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Stenopodidea represents one of the basal lineages within Pleocyemata, yet the male reproductive system (MRS) of this group remains poorly understood, with limited information available regarding its morphology and function. This study provides the first detailed description of the MRS in four stenopodidean shrimp species from two families ...
