Thermodynamic study of benzocaine insertion into different lipid bilayers [PDF]
Despite the general consensus concerning the role played by sodium channels in the molecular mechanism of local anesthetics, the potency of anaesthetic drugs also seems to be related with their solubility in lipid bilayers.

ABSTRACT Formalin‐inactivated vaccines are widely employed as a primary preventive strategy against red sea bream iridoviral disease (RSIVD), which poses a substantial economic threat to the aquaculture of rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus). However, conventional quantitative PCR (qPCR) cannot differentiate infectious virions from noninfectious vaccine

Use-dependent inhibition of Na+ currents by benzocaine homologs
Most local anesthetics (LAs) elicit use-dependent inhibition of Na+ currents when excitable membranes are stimulated repetitively. One exception to this rule is benzocaine, a neutral LA that fails to produce appreciable use-dependent inhibition.

ABSTRACT Waterborne horizontal transmission of viral diseases in fish relies on the release of infectious virus particles (termed shedding) into the aquatic environment. Both the rate and duration of shedding are critical for efficient viral spread, making interventions that reduce shedding valuable for disease control.

A Validated Quantification of Benzocaine in Lozenges Using TLC and a Flatbed Scanner
We present a video-densitometric quantification method for benzocaine in lozenges. The quantification is based on a derivatisation reaction with 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde. Measurements were carried out using a 16-bit flatbed scanner.

In this study we tested the effects of insularity on amphibian colouration using the fire salamander as a model system. Although increased melanism was not a consistent pattern across all islands, salamanders from one island exhibited higher proportions of black pigmentation than mainland populations, while insular populations overall showed reduced ...
