Larvicidal activity of para-Benzoquinones

Parasitology Research, 2010
Plant products may be alternative sources of mosquito larval control agents, since they constitute a rich source of bioactive compounds that are biodegradable into nontoxic products. It has been reported that quinones and derivatives present toxic activity against mosquito larvae Aedes aegypti.

Reaction of selenomethionine with o-benzoquinone

Analytical Biochemistry, 1981
Abstract A new reaction of selenomethionine with o-benzoquinone is described. This reaction can be used to distinguish between methionine and selenomethionine.

The complexing of histamine with p-benzoquinone

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1972
Histamine interacts with p-benzoquinone to form an unstable complex which breaks down to give hydroquinone. Rate constants and thermodynamic data have been obtained for the interaction from spectrophotometric measurements using digital simulation techniques.

Protonated p-Benzoquinone

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 1996
The structure and energetics of protonated p-benzoquinone (pBQ) have been investigated using high-pressure mass spectrometry and ab initio calculations. The experimental proton affinity of pBQ is 801.4 +/- 8.9 kJ/mol (191.5 +/- 2.1 kcal/mol) (1sigma) from bracketing measurements and hydration thermochemistry.

The reaction of benzoquinone with amines and proteins

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1969
Abstract It has been shown that benzoquinone will form 1,4 addition products with amines, amino acids, and proteins. The substituted quinones produced via this reaction have altered redox potentials. The quinone amine adduct can be reduced by ascorbate and oxidized by oxygen to produce hydrogen peroxide. This sequence of reactions can be conveniently

Aqueous Photochemistry of Methyl-Benzoquinone

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2008
Chemical trapping studies combined with optical and electron paramagnetic resonance measurements were employed to examine the mechanisms of the aqueous photochemistry of methyl-benzoquinone (mBQ) at both low and high quinone concentrations. At low [mBQ], dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) reacted with a photogenerated intermediate to form a methyl radical, but ...

Amino-substituted p-benzoquinones

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1986
Based on the observation of outstanding antineoplastic activity of a number of amino-substituted anthraquinones, thioxanthones, and N-(aminoethyl)-substituted naphthalimides, four types of amino-substituted p-benzoquinones were designed, synthesized, and their biological activity evaluated. Although none of these compounds exhibited inhibitory activity

High-pressure infrared spectra of 1,4-benzoquinone and tetrafluoro-1,4-benzoquinone

Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 1996
Abstract The pressure dependence of the infrared spectra (600–1800, 2500–3600 cm −1 ) has been measured for 1,4-benzoquinone(2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione) and fluoranil (2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione). No phase changes occur in either compound over the pressure range from ambient pressure to 50 kbar in benzoquinone and to 40 kbar ...
