The synthesis of 1-haloalkyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2-benzoxepins
AbstractShort, efficient routes to several 7,8‐dimethoxy‐1‐haloalkyl‐1,3,4,5‐tetrahydro‐2‐benzoxepins were developed. These benzoxepins were prepared by the Lewis acid catalyzed condensation of the acetals of chloropropionaldehyde or bromoacetaldehyde with 3‐(3,4‐dimethoxyphenyl)‐1‐propanol.

Singlet (1Δg) oxygen reacts with 1-benzoxepin by 2,5-addition to yield a novel endoperoxide, 2,5-epidioxy-1-benzoxepin, which undergoes an unusual rearrangement on deoxidation with trimethyl phosphite.

Abstract Palladium‐catalyzed (3+3) and (3+4) cycloannulations between vinylcyclopropanes and various (hetero)aromatic aldehydes are reported. The use of phosphonate‐substituted vinylcyclopropanes provides access to a variety of bi‐ or tricyclic heteroaromatic scaffolds via an allylation/olefination cascade.
