Challenges in bermudagrass production in the southeastern USA
Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) is one of the primary perennial forages in the southeastern USA. Newer hybrid cultivars have superior production and nutritive value compared to common ecotypes.

Broadening the genetic base of bermudagrass
Summary Broadening the genetic base of cultivated plant species is crucial for breeding. A large genetic variation exists for common bermudagrass [ Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] in the Mediterranean region, shown to be within the center of diversity for the species.

AbstractThe bermudagrass stem maggot, Atherigona reversura Villeneuve (Diptera: Muscidae), was first reported damaging bermudagrass Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers grown for forage in 2010 in the southeastern United States. Injury results from individual larvae feeding internally on the vascular tissue just above the terminal node of the grass stem.

An Economic Analysis of Replacing Existing Bermudagrass Stands with Tifton 85 Bermudagrass for Beef Cow-Calf, Stocker and Hay Production [PDF]
Comparisons of simulated NPV for Coastal and Tifton 85 bermuda-grass using experimental data, current input prices and historical hay and feeder cattle prices indicates that many producers would benefit by adopting this new cultivar.

Use of Diatomaceous Earth and Copper Oxide Wire Particles to Control Gastrointestinal Nematodes in Lambs [PDF]
Anthelmintic resistance (AR) urges alternatives to control gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN). Copper oxide wire particles (COWP) are more efficacious when used with other dewormers and little is known on efficacy of diatomaceous earth (DE) to control ...

INCORPORATING UNCERTAINTY IN THE ANALYSIS OF OPTIMAL BEEF-FORAGE PRODUCTION SYSTEMS [PDF]
A risk programming model was developed to evaluate the tradeoffs between risk and expected returns in beef-forage production systems. The specification represents nutrient and intake considerations when allocating forage among cattle enterprises; it also
