An adult male specimen of Beryx splendens was caught off Cape Carbonara (SE Sardinia, Italy) in November 2009. This capture represents the second documented record in Italian waters. Morphometrics and biological data of the collected fish are described.

African Journal of Marine Science, 2006Age and growth of alfonsino Beryx splendens from South-West Indian Ocean seamounts were studied based on whole otolith readings. Ages of the fish under study ranged between one year and 14 years (15.5–43.5cm fork length). Age distribution was related to depth.

In vorliegender Studie wurde erstmals die Nahrungsökologie von Beryx splendens und Beryx decadactylus im Bereich der Kanarischen Inseln untersucht. Aus anderen Regionen liegt bislang nur eine Veröffentlichung über die Nahrung für Beryx splendens vor, von Beryx decadactylus existieren ausschließlich qualitative Beschreibungen zum Nahrungsspektrum.
