An All‐Optical Driven Bio‐Photovoltaic Interface for Active Control of Live Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐photovoltaic Interface (BIO‐PV‐I) for live cell manipulation is presented. BIO‐PV‐I can be activated non‐invasively and remotely to control the spatial motility, adhesion, and morphology of cells adhering to it. BIO‐PV‐I uses a patterned light‐induced electric potential in iron‐doped lithium niobate crystals whose light‐driven and reversible nature,

In situ strength assessment of rapid set concrete in real time using resonant peak parameters of embedded PZT transducers

open access: yesScientific Reports
The in-situ concrete strength is estimated using qualitative techniques such as ultrasonic pulse velocity and the Schmidt hammer test, which are challenging to perform at inaccessible locations in large structures.

Biomonitoring Equivalents (BEs) for tetrabromobisphenol A

open access: yesRegulatory toxicology and pharmacology : RTP, 2019
Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is a flame retardant used in a variety of products, including epoxy and polycarbonate resins. Relevant exposure to TBBPA has been assessed by measuring TBBPA in the blood of humans. Here, we derive Biomonitoring Equivalents (

Coexisting Rashba/Dresselhaus Spin Splitting in Solution‐Processed Bournonite Films Using Circular Photogalvanic Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Circular photogalvanic effect measurements and first‐principles calculations reveal spin‐splitting states in solution‐processed bournonite films (CuPbSbS3) due to structural and bulk inversion asymmetry. The results provide experimental confirmation of coexisting Rashba and Dresselhaus spin‐splitting states in this non‐centrosymmetric chalcogenide ...

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Effect of N, N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-aminoethanesulfonic acid sodium salt and triethanolamine on the hydration and compressive strength of steel slag-cement composite systems: A comparative study

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
To solve the problem of low cementitious activity of steel slag (SS), N, N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-aminoethanesulfonic acid sodium salt (BES-Na) and triethanolamine (TEA) were used in this study to improve the hydration activity of SS.

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.
