Infinite divisibility of solutions to some self-similar integro-differential equations and exponential functionals of L\'evy processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We provide the increasing eigenfunctions associated to spectrally negative self-similar Feller semigroups, which have been introduced by Lamperti. These eigenfunctions are expressed in terms of a new family of power series which includes, for instance ...

Surface Wrinkling of Plasma‐Exposed PDMS is Caused by Water Vapor Sorption: An Optical Environmental Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wrinkling of soft materials, such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), underpins a myriad of technologies. Plasma‐oxidation of PDMS induces spontaneous wrinkling, which is canonically attributed to thermal expansion‐contraction of bilayers. Employing experiments and modelling, it is demonstrated that sorption of water vapor is instead responsible for ...

Space and time inversions of stochastic processes and Kelvin transform

open access: yes, 2018
Let $X$ be a standard Markov process. We prove that a space inversion property of $X$ implies the existence of a Kelvin transform of $X$-harmonic, excessive and operator-harmonic functions and that the inversion property is inherited by Doob $h ...

Multifunctional Neural Probes Enable Bidirectional Electrical, Optical, and Chemical Recording and Stimulation In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Convergence drawing is used to create flexible, microscale, multifunctional fiber‐based neural probes. Optimized materials selection enables individual devices to perform neural recording, electrical stimulation, optogenetics, fiber photometry, fluid delivery, and voltammetric neurotransmitter detection in rodents.

Random Aharonov-Bohm vortices and some exact families of integrals: Part III

open access: yes, 2013
As a sequel to [1] and [2], I present some recent progress on Bessel integrals $\int_0^{\infty}{\rmd u}\; uK_0(u)^{n}$, $\int_0^{\infty}{\rmd u}\; u^{3}K_0(u)^{n}$, ...

Differential Equations for Dyson Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We call "Dyson process" any process on ensembles of matrices in which the entries undergo diffusion. We are interested in the distribution of the eigenvalues (or singular values) of such matrices. In the original Dyson process it was the ensemble of n by

Manipulating Ferroelectric Topological Polar Structures with Twisted Light

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate dynamic control of ferroelectric order in quasi‐2D CsBiNb2O7 using twisted ultraviolet light carrying orbital angular momentum. Our approach harnesses non‐resonant multiphoton absorption and induced strain to modulate topological of ferroelectric polarization textures.

Nonintersecting Brownian excursions

open access: yes, 2006
We consider the process of $n$ Brownian excursions conditioned to be nonintersecting. We show the distribution functions for the top curve and the bottom curve are equal to Fredholm determinants whose kernel we give explicitly.

The Distribution of the Area under a Bessel Excursion and its Moments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A Bessel excursion is a Bessel process that begins at the origin and first returns there at some given time $T$. We study the distribution of the area under such an excursion, which recently found application in the context of laser cooling. The area $A$

Electrical Monitoring of Vibrio vulnificus–Host Cell Membrane Interactions in Simple and Complex Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Supported lipid bilayers coupled with multielectrode array devices offer significant promise for pathogen–host cell membrane interaction studies. This work demonstrates, for the first time, the compatibility of this platform with biological fluids, in this case whole human blood, essential for any future point‐of‐care applications; as well as its ...
