Enzyme-Catalyzed Polymerization of Beta-alanine Esters, A Sustainable Route Towards the Formation of Poly-Beta-alanine

2013
The synthesis of poly-ß-alanine by a lipase catalyzed polycondensation reaction between ß-alanine esters is reported. The effect of different solvents, reaction temperatures and substrate/enzyme concentrations on polymer yield and degree of polymerization (DP) was determined.

The metabolism of beta-alanine by lobster nervous tissue in vitro

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 1976
Abstract 1. 1. Lobster abdominal ganglionic preparations formed [β-3H]alanine efficiently in vitro from [6-3H]uracil but not aspartic [2,3-3H]acid. 2. 2. This labeled product was retained unaltered as a consequence of its relatively slow catabolism. 3. 3.

beta-Alanine containing peptides: gamma-turns in cyclotetrapeptides.

Biopolymers, 1993
In the present paper we describe the synthesis, purification, single-crystal x-ray analysis, solution conformational characterization, and conformational energy calculations of the cyclic tetrapeptide cyclo-(beta-Ala-L-Pro-beta-Ala-L-Val). The peptide was synthesized by classical solution methods and the cyclization of the free tetrapeptide was ...

[Immunoregulative effects of carnosine and beta-alanine].

Nihon seirigaku zasshi. Journal of the Physiological Society of Japan, 1986
Physiological factors involved in immunity and tissue repair with regulate homeostasis, a physiological function of the connective tissue, are as yet unidentified. We earlier detected the granulation-promoting action of carnosine, and reported on the acceleration of tissue repair in experimental as well as clinical studies.
