Nuclear transcriptional changes in hypothalamus of Pomc enhancer knockout mice after excessive alcohol drinking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Persistent alterations of proopiomelanocortin (Pomc) and mu‐opioid receptor (Oprm1) activity and stress responses after alcohol are critically involved in vulnerability to alcohol dependency.

beta-Endorphin induces nonconvulsive limbic seizures.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1978
The endogenous opioid peptide, beta-endorphin, induces nonconvulsive limbic epileptiform activity when administered intraventricularly to rats. Epileptiform activity is elicited by beta-endorphin in doses that are devoid of analgesic or behavioral signs.

The effectiveness of aerobic exercise on pain and disability in individuals with neck pain: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The present review aimed to investigate the effectiveness of aerobic exercise (AE) compared to other interventions in decreasing pain intensity and reducing disability in individuals with neck pain. A systematic review (SR) of randomized controlled trials was conducted. This SR was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021231231).

Photocarcinogenesis of the skin: Current status and future trends

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, Volume 41, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Solar radiation is essential for life on Earth but is also a major contributor to skin carcinogenesis. Solar radiation, particularly ultraviolet (UV) B (280–320 nm) and UVA (320–400 nm), induces photocarcinogenesis via various pathways. UV light can directly cause DNA damage, resulting in genetic mutations if not repaired correctly.

Role of acetaldehyde in alcohol addiction : current evidence and future perspectives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The effects of alcohol have been widely studied during the past century, corroborating the idea that this tiny chemical compound acts throughout most of our neurotransmitter systems since it is capable of inducing addictive behaviour.

Release of beta endorphin and met-enkephalin during exercise in normal women: response to training.

open access: yesBritish medical journal, 1984
Plasma beta endorphin and met-enkephalin concentrations were measured in response to treadmill exercises in 15 normal women before, during, and after an intensive programme of exercise training. Significant release of beta endorphin occurred in all three

Distribution of beta-endorphin-related peptides in rat pituitary and brain.

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1982
beta-Endorphin, the most potent known naturally occurring analgesic agent, is found in pituitary and brain in company with a series of structurally and biosynthetically related peptides that are essentially devoid of opiate activity.
