New Insights on Betic Cordillera Structure From Gas Geochemistry [PDF]

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2018
AbstractThe current lithospheric structure of the Betic Cordillera results from active geodynamic system related to slab retreat slowdown in western Mediterranean. A sharp change in lithospheric thickness has been imaged beneath the Betic Cordillera, potentially resulting from a near‐vertical subduction‐transform‐edge‐propagator fault toward the ...

METAOPHIOLITES AND “OROGENIC” LHERZOLITES OF THE BETIC CORDILLERAS

International Geology Review, 1993
The authors summarize the structure of the Betic Cordilleras and the tectonic position of the Ronda, Ojen and other lherzolite massifs in them, as well as the lower Mesozoic ophiolite section. The mafic and ultramafic rocks in the nappe-fold structure of the Betides consist of rocks that were metamorphosed at high pressure and low temperature.

Mid-Cretaceous paleogeography and paleoceanography of the Betic Seaway (Betic Cordillera, Spain)

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 1994
Abstract Sedimentary and micropaleontological features of Cretaceous formations in the Betic Seaway have been examined. In the External Zone of the Betic Cordillera (Southern Spain) planktic and benthic foraminiferal assemblages were studied to establish a biostratigraphic framework and to provide estimates of paleo-waterdepth.

Virtual fieldwork in the Betic Cordillera, SE-Spain

2022
<p>The master’s degree programmes Earth Structure and Dynamics and Earth Life and Climate at Utrecht University, The Netherlands, include the option to join a research-oriented fieldwork in the Betic Cordillera, SE-Spain. The fieldwork is a 200-hour course where the students learn how to set up and develop a field project ...

Neotectonic evolution of the Central Betic Cordilleras (Southern Spain)

Tectonophysics, 2005
Paleostress orientations were calculated from fault-slip data of 36 sites located along a traverse through the Central Betic Cordilleras (southern Spain). Heterogeneous fault sets, which are frequent in the area, have been divided into homogeneous subsets by cross-cutting relationships observed in the field and by a paleostress stratigraphy approach ...

Polymetamorphism in the Alpujarride Complex, Betic Cordillera, South Spain

The Journal of Geology, 2017
AbstractThe pre-Alpine metamorphic history of basement rocks of the Alpine Betic-Rif orogen is still uncertain as a result of intense Miocene reworking.

Diagenetic Kaolinite/Dickite (Betic Cordilleras, Spain)

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1993
AbstractThe lower Permo-Triassic sediments of the Maláguide Complex contain abundant dickite. Whole rocks were studied by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction. The 2–20 µm and < 2 µm size fractions were extracted and analyzed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction ...
