Phylogenetic and Functional Originality Shape Species Positions in Flea–Mammal Networks Across Biogeographic Realms

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The relationship between the position of a flea species in the networks and its functional originality was found to be consistently positive in all realms, independently of which originality index was used. ABSTRACT We investigated the relationships between a species’ network position (measured as the combined normalized degree, species strength, and ...

Network Structure and the Efficiency Gains from Mergers: Evidence from U.S. Freight Railroads

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The trade‐off between market power and efficiency gains is central to antitrust analyses of mergers, but empirical evidence quantifying efficiencies remains limited. Using transaction‐level data from U.S. freight railroads (1985–2005), this article quantifies merger‐induced cost efficiencies, driven mainly by eliminating inter‐railroad ...

Portfolio optimization based on network centralities: Which centrality is better for asset selection during global crises?

open access: yesJournal of Management Science and Engineering
We construct correlation-based networks linking 86 assets (stock indices, bond indices, foreign exchange rates, commodity futures, and cryptocurrencies) and analyze the impact of asset selection on portfolio optimization using different centrality ...

Audit Committee Networks and Audit Fees: A European Analysis

open access: yesAccounting &Finance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the association between audit committee member networks and audit fees in a sample of 225 publicly traded firms from eight European countries between 2005 and 2020. Using social network analysis, we find that director interconnections—established through overlapping board memberships—are associated with audit fees.

‘We need solidarity’: Reflections on Building and Troubling Solidarity in Research Ethics in Myanmar

open access: yesAsia Pacific Viewpoint, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Calls for solidarity by civil society are taking place alongside changes in how researchers navigate shifting research landscapes. Yet what solidarity‐based research entails in practice and how this might guide, critique, or challenge institutionalised ethics can be elusive.

More Than a Course, More Than a Method: Study Circles as a Pedagogical and Research Method Working With Asylum Seekers Across Language Barriers and Differences

open access: yesArea, EarlyView.
Short Abstract Acknowledging the limits of participatory action research, this paper explores how to include participants in the asylum process despite facing practical and ethical challenges. Concretely, the paper argues for research to align with participating organisations' knowledge, methods and resources.

School achievement in the Brazilian rural Amazon: An analysis of the interaction among motor, cognitive and environmental factors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Developmental Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract A cross‐sectional study of 106 students (7–12 years) from a rural school in the Brazilian Amazon investigated the interaction among motor, cognitive and environmental factors on school achievement using network analysis. Students with good school performance were significantly older and showed superior global physical fitness, motor ...

LLM‐based prior elicitation for Bayesian graphical modeling

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the Bayesian graphical modeling framework, priors on network structure encode theoretical assumptions and uncertainty about the topology of psychological constructs under study. For instance, the Bernoulli prior specifies the probability of each pairwise interaction, the Beta–Bernoulli prior governs expected network density, and the ...

Ripple Effects: Social Turmoil Following Infant Kidnapping Attempts in Wild Geladas

open access: yesEthology, EarlyView.
Graphical abstract illustrating the social consequences of infant kidnapping in wild geladas (Theropithecus gelada). The study monitors a 28‐day period divided into a 14‐day pre‐kidnapping phase and a 14‐day post‐kidnapping phase. ABSTRACT Infant kidnapping is an extreme social disruption reported in some primate species, yet its consequences on social
