57Fe Mössbauer Spectroscopy for Bi-System Superconductors

Mossbauer effect of 57Fe in a sample of Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2.0Ca2.2(Cu0.9757Fe0.03)3.2O z [Bi-(2223)] has been measured from 4.2K to room temperature to study magnetic and phonon structures of Cu-O layers. A widely split spectrum is obtained at 4.2K, which indicates the existence of hyperfine magnetic interaction of 57Fe probe in Cu sites.

Growth of superconducting whiskers in the Bi system

The preparation and properties of Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O x (2212) and Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 2 O x (2223) superconducting whiskers are presented. The 2212 whiskers have been grown by annealing a melt-quenched glass plate in a stream of O 2 gas. For the whisker growth, the glass precursor, AI addition to the glass, and a steady stream of O 2 are required.
