Creep Buckling Of Plates Under Biaxial Compression

open access: yes, 1992
This work presents an analysis for the creep buckling problem of geometrically imperfect rectangular flat plates under biaxial compression with simple support boundary conditions. The analysis is based on a non-dimensional form of Donnell-type equations for a slightly imperfect flat plate.

Quasi‐Single‐Mode Polaritonic Crystal for Hyperbolic Phonon‐Polaritons

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Near‐field study of the polaritonic Fourier crystal with α‐MoO3 reveals that the hyperbolic phonon‐polaritons within the Type‐I Reststrahlen band may form a quasi‐single‐mode Bloch wave where only the fundamental mode propagates in the crystal. Our results demonstrate the realization of a quasi‐single‐mode regime for the inherently multimode hyperbolic

Waveguide Photoactuators: Materials, Fabrication, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Waveguide photoactuators convert guided light into mechanical motion. Their tethered‐flexible design enables minimally invasive surgery and confined‐space robotics. This review aims to guide materials selection, device design, and system integration, accelerating the transition of waveguide photoactuators from laboratory prototypes to versatile ...

Computational Model and Constructal Design Applied to Thin Stiffened Plates Subjected to Elastoplastic Buckling Due to Combined Loading Conditions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The size of ships has increased considerably in recent decades. This growth impacts the stress magnitude in the bottom hull plates, which constantly suffer from biaxial compression and lateral water pressure, potentially leading to buckling.

Material‐Induced Nuclear Deformation Controls Chromatin Architecture in Adipose Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tuning cell and cytoskeleton mechanics modulated nuclear shape and heterochromatin organization in ASCs. Distinct cytoskeletal architectures induced nuclear morphologies from oblate to prolate ellipsoids. Large elongated cells with a structured actin cap exhibited high nuclear strain, driving nuclear envelope deformation and heterochromatin ...

Hierarchical Strain‐Modified Medium‐Entropy Carbide Ceramics Exhibit Exceptional Ablation Resistance up to 2400°C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel strategy is developed by doping reduced graphene oxide (rGO) into a (HfZrTi)C medium‐entropy ceramic. This induces a hierarchical strain modification mechanism, synergistically inhibiting crack propagation at the microscale and dissipating stress at the mesoscale.

Fracture Propagation Characteristic and Micromechanism of Rock-Like Specimens under Uniaxial and Biaxial Compression

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
This paper presents a set of uniaxial and biaxial compression tests on the rock-like material specimens with different fracture geometries through a rock mechanics servo-controlled testing system (RMT-150C).

Assessment of residual ultimate strength of cracked plates under biaxial compression

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2017
[Objectives] Such ship hull structures as inner bottom plates always bear complex loads involving the longitudinal bending stress and transverse in-plane stress transferred from the ship's side plates under water pressure.

Mathematical Model for Analysis of Uniaxial and Biaxial Reinforced Concrete Columns

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
This paper presents a mathematical model for the analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) uniaxial and biaxial columns. This proposed model is a quick and faster approach for the analysis and design of reinforced concrete rectangular columns without going ...

Large Anomalous Hall Effect, Non‐Vanishing Berry Curvature in (110) FeRh Antiferromagnet Films via Interface Strain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a strain‐tunable anomalous Hall response in the (110)‐oriented FeRh thin film. First‐principles calculations reveal that strain‐induced symmetry lowering redistributes Berry curvature near the Fermi level via band shifts and avoided crossings.
