Biaxial tensile tests of the porcine ascending aorta

One of the aims of this work is to develop an original custom built biaxial set-up to assess mechanical behavior of soft tissues. Stretch controlled biaxial tensile tests are performed and stereoscopic digital image correlation (SDIC) is implemented to measure the 3D components of the generated displacements.

A 30 ton biaxial tensile testing machine

The machine is intended for a flat-plate testpiece, one face of which has to be unobstucted throughout the test. Plates up to 36 in long, 27 in wide, and 3/4 in thick can be accommodated. Hydraulic rams actuated by air-hydraulic pumps exert completely independent tensions on cruciform test pieces through spherical bushes.

Use of the hydraulic bulge test in biaxial tensile testing

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1979
Abstract The effect of the geometry of the bulge and the measuring procedure on the determination of biaxial stress-strain curves is examined. The shape of the top of the bulge is shown to be nearly spherical irrespective of the anisotropy of the sheet, while the meridional strains may differ from the balanced biaxial strain state.

Abstract A novel, low cost testing apparatus has been designed for the application of biaxial stress on standard tensile spectmens. The apparatus independently applies compressive loading perpendicular to a tensile load. A numerical–experimental framework is developed to optimise the design of geomembrane specimens for biaxial tensile testing. Specifically, the geometry and adhesive bonding method of specimens are optimised to maximise strain in the central measuring region while reducing premature failure caused by stress concentrations outside this region.

Optimal Design of a Disk-Shaped Specimen for Biaxial-Tensile Fatigue Testing

Abstract A relatively simple apparatus has been proposed for conducting biaxial-tensile fatigue tests using an annular disk specimen with a reduced testing section. It makes use of a conventional hydraulic testing machine so that the uniaxial force is converted into radial forces extending the disk specimen.
