2.1 KNOCK-OUT OF MATRIX METALLOPROTEINASE-12 EXACERBATES COMPROMISED MECHANICAL HOMEOSTASIS IN ARTERIAL AGING

open access: yesArtery Research, 2018
Background: Matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP12) may modulate arterial stiffening with age [1]. We aimed to study the effect of aging on biaxial arterial stiffness in wild-type (WT) and MMP12 knock-out (MMP12-/-) mice.

Direct Tensile Test Method for Shotcrete

open access: yesBuildings
This study substantiates the need for direct tensile strength testing of shotcrete and fiber-reinforced shotcrete, rather than relying on indirect methods, to accurately reflect material performance under biaxial stress conditions when used for ...

Dielectric Elastomer Actuators as Safe and Effective Tools for Mechanostimulation of Human Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Replicating physiological forces is crucial for realistic cell models. Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) offer a soft alternative, though their high voltages raised toxicity concerns. We demonstrate that DEA stimulation causes no cell damage, cell death or cell‐cycle disruption, while activating mechanosensitive responses.

Numerical investigation of natural fracture activation and leakage risk during CO2 sequestration in depleted sandstone reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the hydro‐mechanical response and fracture evolution in depleted sandstone reservoirs during CO2 injection, considering both direct wellbore injection and hydraulic‐fracture‐assisted injection. The graphical abstract illustrates how CO2 injection induces dynamic stress redistribution, leading to natural fracture activation ...
