Mechanical Behaviour of Vacuum‐Infused GFRP Composites at Elevated Temperatures—Influence of Fibre Architecture

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study addresses the influence of fibre architecture on the mechanical properties of vacuum‐infused glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites at elevated temperatures (ET). Laminates with three different fibre configurations—unidirectional (UD), bidirectional 0°/90° cross‐ply (BD), and ±45° off‐axis angle‐ply (OA) – were tested in ...

Flexible multidimensional sensor for comprehensive human motion monitoring and recognition

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
A flexible multidimensional sensor based on orthogonally stacked nanofibrous films enables simultaneous detection of in‐plane strain (X/Y) and out‐of‐plane pressure (Z). The ultrathin device exhibits high sensitivity, wide strain range, and excellent directional selectivity.

Insights Into the Mechanisms Controlling the Residual Strength of Bio‐cemented Sands

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) is an emerging technique for enhancing the mechanical properties of granular soils. Although several experimental studies have reported increased shear strength in MICP‐treated soils at both peak and residual states, other findings have shown reductions in residual strength compared to ...

Negative Stiffness Induced and Controlled by Constriction

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Structures with negative stiffness can be stabilized by constriction of external displacement. Furthermore, constriction can make a conventional positive stiffness material exhibit negative stiffness, either bidirectional or unidirectional (shown in the figure).

Stress‐guided photo‐programming of cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers for 2D‐to‐3D shape–color information encoding

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
We reported a stress‐guided photo‐programming strategy that enables cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers (CLCEs) to achieve synchronous 3D shape morphing and structural color evolution from a single 2D film. Abstract Flexible materials with dynamic structural colors have attracted considerable interest for multilevel information interaction, showing ...

Enhancing the Chemical Reactivity of Graphene through Substrate Engineering

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review highlights methods to enhance the reactivity of graphene through substrate engineering, focusing on strain and charge doping. Strains induced by nanoparticles, metal crystal orientations, or stretchable polymers increase the reactivity of graphene.

Flattening Energy Puddles for Enhanced Charge Transport in Wrinkled WSe2

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Strain‐inducing wrinkles in 1L‐WSe2 create carrier‐trapping energy puddles. Trioctylphosphine selenide (TOPSe) selectively passivates Se vacancies at these wrinkle sites, while steric hindrance suppresses basal‐plane reaction. Comprehensive suite of space‐resolved spectroscopic techniques reveals reduced nonradiative recombination, longer exciton ...

A Platinum (II) Polyyne Oligomers Donor for Efficient Ternary Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesSolar RRL, EarlyView.
Platinum (II) polyyne oligomers P5 are used as a donor in a ternary organic solar cell. The average power conversion efficiency of 16% surpasses the international record for [Pt] (II) polyyne oligomers. PC71BM speeds up the rise time for electron transfer and slows down the recombination time.
