Call it Science: Biblical Studies, Science Fiction, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
In the virtual world elaborated in Marvel’s movies (the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” or MCU), “science” is creatively, strategically confused with “magic” and/or “religion.” Key supernatural/magical elements of the franchise’s comic-book source material ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Analysis of comprehensive genomic profiling of solid tumors with a novel assay for broad analysis in clinical diagnostics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In molecular cancer diagnostics, comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) is going to replace the small NGS panels since it provides all clinically relevant somatic variants as well as genomic biomarkers with clinical value. Here, we compared two CGP assays and demonstrate that the choice for diagnostic implementation will depend on the specific ...

A hybrid Christian identity in Philippians 1:15–18

open access: yesHTS Teologiese Studies/Theological Studies, 2021
There have been various studies on the passage of Philippians 1:15–18 but there have been few studies on a hybrid aspect of Christian identity implicated in the passage. The aim of the study was to reveal a hybrid aspect of the passage.

Molecular and functional profiling unravels targetable vulnerabilities in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We used whole exome and RNA‐sequencing to profile divergent genomic and transcriptomic landscapes of microsatellite stable (MSS) and microsatellite instable (MSI) colorectal cancer. Alterations were classified using a computational score for integrative cancer variant annotation and prioritization.

Biblical names' relationships in the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts of Apostles [PDF]

open access: yesIn Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Statistical Analysis of Textual Data. Lexicometrica 2020, 2020
In this paper we extrapolate the information about Bible's characters and places, and their interrelationships, by using text mining network-based approach. We study the narrative structure of the WEB version of 5 books: the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts of the Apostles.

Stochastic variation in the FOXM1 transcription program mediates replication stress tolerance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cellular heterogeneity is a major cause of drug resistance in cancer. Segeren et al. used single‐cell transcriptomics to investigate gene expression events that correlate with sensitivity to the DNA‐damaging drugs gemcitabine and prexasertib. They show that dampened expression of transcription factor FOXM1 and its target genes protected cells against ...

Transcriptome‐wide analysis of circRNA and RBP profiles and their molecular relevance for GBM

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircRNAs are differentially expressed in glioblastoma primary tumors and might serve as therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers. The investigation of circRNA and RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) interactions shows that distinct RBPs play a role in circRNA biogenesis and function.
