A Mixture Group Bifactor Model for Binary Responses

Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2014
The presence of nuisance dimensionality is a potential threat to the accuracy of results for tests calibrated using a measurement model such as a factor analytic model or an item response theory model. This article describes a mixture group bifactor model to account for the nuisance dimensionality due to a testlet structure as well as the ...

IRT linking methods for the bifactor model

2018
<p>For unidimensional item response theory (UIRT) models, three linking methods, which are the separate, concurrent, and fixed parameter calibration methods, have been developed and widely used in applications such as vertical scaling, differential item functioning, computerized adaptive testing (CAT), and equating. By contrast, even though a few

Evaluating bifactor models: Calculating and interpreting statistical indices.

Psychological Methods, 2016
Bifactor measurement models are increasingly being applied to personality and psychopathology measures (Reise, 2012). In this work, authors generally have emphasized model fit, and their typical conclusion is that a bifactor model provides a superior fit relative to alternative subordinate models.

A Bifactor Model of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Phenotype

Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, 2019
I read with interest the newly published work by Kim et al. describing the covariance structure of parent-reported autism spectrum disorder (ASD) symptoms.1 The authors compared many different latent class, factor analytic, and factor mixture models in a large, clinically referred sample, concluding that the ASD phenotype is best described by three ...

A Tutorial on Interpreting Bifactor Model Scores

International Journal of Testing, 2013
This tutorial addresses possible sources of confusion in interpreting trait scores from the bifactor model. The bifactor model may be used when subscores are desired, either for formative feedback on an achievement test or for theoretically different constructs on a psychological test.

Assessing the Evaluative Content of Personality Questionnaires Using Bifactor Models

Journal of Personality Assessment, 2018
Exploratory bifactor models with keying factors were applied to item response data for the NEO-FFI-3 and HEXACO-PI-R questionnaires. Loadings on a general factor and positive and negative keying factors correlated with independent estimates of item valence, suggesting that item valence influences responses to these questionnaires.

Examination of a Bifactor Model of Obsessive-Compulsive Symptom Dimensions

Assessment, 2016
Although obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms are observed along four dimensions (contamination, responsibility for harm, order/symmetry, and unacceptable thoughts), the structure of the dimensions remains unclear. The current study evaluated a bifactor model of OC symptoms among those with and without obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The goals were

Bifactor Modeling and the Estimation of Model-Based Reliability in the WAIS-IV

Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2013
Previous confirmatory factor analytic research that has examined the factor structure of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) has endorsed either higher order models or oblique factor models that tend to amalgamate both general factor and index factor sources of systematic variance.

A bifactor model of meanness, coldheartedness, callousness, and sadism

Personality and Individual Differences, 2019
Abstract Although callous/unemotional or mean psychopathic traits overlap with sadism, there may be specific aspects differentiating sadism from this component of psychopathy. The factor structure of eight scales that assess sadism or the meanness component of psychopathy was examined using confirmatory factor analysis in two independent samples: an ...
