Bifurcation buckling from a membrane stress state

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2012
SUMMARYA membrane stress state may be considered as a general stress state in which mechanical constraints have been imposed. Therefore, it would appear that there are mathematical subsidiary conditions for bifurcation buckling from such a stress state. In this work, such conditions are derived in the frame of the Finite Element Method.

Plastic bifurcation buckling of lined pipe under bending

European Journal of Mechanics, A/Solids, 2014
Abstract Linepipe used in offshore and other operations is often protected from corrosive contents by lining internally a carbon steel carrier pipe with a thin layer of corrosion resistant material. In many applications the lined pipeline can experience bending or compression severe enough for the liner to buckle and collapse inside an intact carrier

Bifurcation of Euler buckling problem, revisited

Hokkaido Mathematical Journal, 2021
The authors develop a long and detailed exposition of the treatment by Golubitsky and Schaeffer of the bifurcation theory for the classical bifurcation for the Euler buckling problem. The main tool used here is the singularity theory due to the same authors.

Viscoplastic bifurcation buckling of plates

AIAA Journal, 1991
A method is proposed according to which the bifurcation buckling load of inelastic rate-sensitive plates subjected to specified boundary conditions can be deduced from the solution of the corresponding perfectly elastic problem under the same boundary conditions.

On the bifurcation buckling and vibration of porous nanobeams

Composite Structures, 2020
Abstract In the present paper, effects of porous material on bifurcation buckling and natural vibrations of nanobeams are investigated based on the higher-order nonlocal strain gradient theory. The displacement field of the nanobeam satisfies assumptions of Reddy higher-order shear deformation beam theory.

Buckling of a critically tapered rod: global bifurcation

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2003
The present paper, which can be considered as a continuation of the first author's previous papers [\textit{C. A. Stuart}, J. Math. Pures Appl., IX. Sér. 80, No. 3, 281--337 (2001; Zbl 1056.74019) and Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A, Math. 132, No. 3, 729--764 (2002; Zbl 1020.34076)] is concerned with studying the buckling of a tapered rod. This physical

Bifurcation buckling of unsymmetrically laminated plates

Composites Engineering, 1994
Abstract It is well known that the presence of bending-extension coupling in unsymmetrically laminated plates gives rise to bending curvatures under the action of pure in-plane loading. In view of this behaviour, it is generally believed that bifurcation buckling could normally not take place.
