The Anatomy of Big Data Computing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Advances in information technology and its widespread growth in several areas of business, engineering, medical and scientific studies are resulting in information/data explosion. Knowledge discovery and decision making from such rapidly growing voluminous data is a challenging task in terms of data organization and processing, which is an emerging ...

The Streaming k-Mismatch Problem: Tradeoffs between Space and Total Time [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We revisit the $k$-mismatch problem in the streaming model on a pattern of length $m$ and a streaming text of length $n$, both over a size-$\sigma$ alphabet. The current state-of-the-art algorithm for the streaming $k$-mismatch problem, by Clifford et al.

Clinical applications of next‐generation sequencing‐based ctDNA analyses in breast cancer: defining treatment targets and dynamic changes during disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a possibility for different applications in early and late stage breast cancer management. In early breast cancer tumor informed approaches are increasingly used for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and early recurrence. In advanced stage, ctDNA provides a possibility for monitoring disease progression and

Mapping Big Data into Knowledge Space with Cognitive Cyber-Infrastructure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Big data research has attracted great attention in science, technology, industry and society. It is developing with the evolving scientific paradigm, the fourth industrial revolution, and the transformational innovation of technologies. However, its nature and fundamental challenge have not been recognized, and its own methodology has not been formed ...

Towards PTAS for Precedence Constrained Scheduling via Combinatorial Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We study the classic problem of scheduling $n$ precedence constrained unit-size jobs on $m = O(1)$ machines so as to minimize the makespan. In a recent breakthrough, Levey and Rothvoss \cite{LR16} developed a $(1+\epsilon)$-approximation for the problem with running time $\exp\Big(\exp\Big(O\big(\frac{m^2}{\epsilon^2}\log^2\log n\big)\Big)\Big)$, via ...

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.
