Tourists on shared bikes: Can bike-sharing boost attraction demand?

Tourism Management, 2021
Abstract This study aims to investigate the impact of bike-sharing on tourist attraction demand in an urban destination. Using monthly data on 460 attractions in Chicago, Illinois from January 2013 to December 2019, we propose a difference-in-differences econometric model to examine the availability of nearby bike-sharing stations on attraction ...

Citywide Bike Usage Prediction in a Bike-Sharing System

IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, 2020
To operate a bike-sharing system efficiently, system operators need to accurately predict how many bikes are to be rented and returned throughout the city. In this paper, we propose a Hierarchical Consistency Prediction (HCP) model to predict the citywide bike usage in the next period.

Planning Bike Lanes based on Sharing-Bikes' Trajectories

Proceedings of the 23rd ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, 2017
Cycling as a green transportation mode has been promoted by many governments all over the world. As a result, constructing effective bike lanes has become a crucial task for governments promoting the cycling life style, as well-planned bike paths can reduce traffic congestion and decrease safety risks for both cyclists and motor vehicle drivers ...

Bike-Sharing Prediction System

2016
Bike Sharing System is a dynamic network. This paper proposes a method to balance the network and allocate the bikes in each station to avoid the imbalance happening. Real-time monitoring takes too much time to reallocate the bikes if an imbalance has occurred so it cannot tackle this problem well.

A Bike Sharing System Simulator

2018
Bike-sharing systems are becoming very popular in big cities. They provide a cheap and green mean of transportation used for commuting and leisure. Being a shared limited resource, it is common to reach imbalanced situations where some stations have either no bikes or only empty slots, thus decreasing the performance of the system.

Mean field analysis for bike and e-bike sharing systems

ACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review, 2022
Electric bikes are deployed massively in preexisting bike sharing system in order to attract new users and replace cars on a larger scale (see [2]). But this causes interactions between the two populations of bikes. In this paper, we analyze a model of an homogeneous bike sharing system where two classes of bikes interact only through the finite ...
