Visual and analytical strategies in spatial visualisation:Perspectives from bilateral symmetry

open access: yes, 2015
This inquiry presents two fine-grained case studies of students demonstrating different levels of cognitive functioning in relation to bilateral symmetry and reflection.

Parallel evolution of TCP and B-class genes in Commelinaceae flower bilateral symmetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background Flower bilateral symmetry (zygomorphy) has evolved multiple times independently across angiosperms and is correlated with increased pollinator specialization and speciation rates.

Biomarkers of Sarcopenia: Current Status and Future Perspectives

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, EarlyView.
In this review, we summarize the various biomarkers discovered in recent years, including biochemical, imaging, and physical testing markers. We analyze their advantages and disadvantages and propose potential ways to improve the diagnostic accuracy of biomarkers, as well as future research directions.

Exploiting bilateral symmetry in brain lesion segmentation

open access: yesCoRR, 2019
Brain lesions, including stroke and tumours, have a high degree of variability in terms of location, size, intensity and form, making automatic segmentation difficult. We propose an improvement to existing segmentation methods by exploiting the bilateral quasi-symmetry of healthy brains, which breaks down when lesions are present.

Food Tastes in the United States: Convergence or Divergence?

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how food consumption tastes have changed in recent decades across the United States. Using NielsenIQ data for over 77 million transactions, there is evidence of divergence in food tastes across regions from 2007 to 2016 and across households of different income, education, and race/ethnicity groups.

Superellipse Equation Describing the Geometries of Abies alba Tree Rings

open access: yesPlants
Our previous study using 41 tree rings of one Abies alba Mill. disc indicated that the superellipse equation can accurately fit its tree-ring shape. This study further used the superellipse equation (xan+yβn=1 ) to model the geometries of 1090 tree rings

Cost Pass‐Through in Crisis: Evidence From the German Malt‐Beer Supply Chain

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract Global agri‐food supply chains are increasingly exposed to geopolitical shocks, climate volatility, and market consolidation, factors that disrupt traditional price relationships and reshape market power dynamics. Nowhere is this more visible than in the brewing sector, where agricultural raw materials meet complex industrial processing and ...

Characteristics of bilateral symmetry detection

open access: yesPsichologija, 2001
Although the symmetry is detected very fast and without efforts, it is not known how this process is going on and what mechanisms make the detection of symmetry possible. This paper reviews the characteristics of the detection of various symmetry types giving the majority of attention to bilateral symmetry.
