Gallstone ileus with two separate biliary-enteric fistulae.

A patient with gallstone ileus associated with two separate biliary-enteric fistulae has been reported. The patient had exploratory laparotomy with removal of the gallstone from the distal ileum, repair of the two fistula tracts, and cholecystectomy. The pathology report showed adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder. The patient was discharged 14 days after

Gallstone ileus is an uncommon cause of small bowel obstruction, accounting for fewer than 3% of laparotomies for intestinal obstruction. Patients with long-standing Crohn's disease have an increased risk of developing gallstone disease. However, gallstone ileus is not common in these patients.
