Carcinoid of the Biliary Tract
Archives of Surgery, 1964Carcinoid tumors are derived from Kultschitsky cells or their precursors and have the potential to produce serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-hydroxytryptophan. The predominance of carcinoids in the intestinal tract is well known, especially in the region of the ileocecal valve where Kultschitsky cells are numerous.

AbstractThe biliary tree extends from the canals of Hering at the margin of the most peripheral portal tracts to the ampulla of Vater. Malformations occur at every level of this structure. Phenotypic features dominate present understanding of these malformations and of the disorders with which they are associated. Classifications of disease will likely

Purpose of review Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) has become the reference examination for the exploration of the biliary tract and has replaced endoscopic cholangiography for the analysis of the biliary tract because of its equivalent performance and its noninvasive character.

Surgical Clinics of North America, 1977
Many of the complications of biliary tract surgery are seen in elderly patients who also possess significant cardiopulmonary deficits, diabetes mellitus, and other disorders of advancing age. Operations in this group of patients could in many cases be avoided by the decision for earlier cholecystectomy in younger patients with symptomatic and ...

Infections of the Biliary Tract
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America, 2013Infection of the biliary tract, or cholangitis, is a potentially life-threatening condition. Bile duct stones are the most common cause of biliary obstruction predisposing to cholangitis. The key components in the pathogenesis of cholangitis are biliary obstruction and biliary infection.

Reconstruction of the Biliary Tract
Surgical Clinics of North America, 1985The history of biliary reconstruction is a record of almost 100 years of surgical advancement. A reasonable technique is now available and applies not only to reconstruction after injury in the course of cholecystectomy but also to reconstruction after resection of tumor or in the treatment of sclerosing cholangitis, choledochocyst, or biliary calculi.
