A Survey of SIR‐Based Differential Epidemic Models for Control and Security Against Malware Propagation in Computer Networks

open access: yesSECURITY AND PRIVACY, Volume 9, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT Unarguably, malware and their variants have metamorphosed into objects of attack and cyber warfare. These issues have directed research focus to modeling infrastructural settings and infection scenarios, analyzing propagation mechanisms, and conducting studies that highlight optimized remedial measures.

A new time‐stepping strategy and boundary treatment to improve recent 2D traffic model

open access: yesZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, Volume 106, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract We show how a recently published 2D model for traffic flow can be further improved. Besides other improvements and simplifications, we present not only a method to compute the necessary time step restrictions, but also a subcycling for the inflow and outflow.

Understanding the Dynamics of Record‐Shattering Compound Drought‐Heatwave Events and Their Impacts on Ecosystems

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Recently, unprecedented compound drought and heatwave (CDHW) events have severely damaged terrestrial ecosystems, but their dynamics, formation mechanisms, and threats are still insufficiently understood. Here, using simulations from nine‐member ensemble under three future scenarios, we project that the expected annual probability of record ...

Small and Medium‐Sized Inland Waterbodies: Water Volume Predictions and Flood Implications

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Small (<10 ha) and medium (10–100 ha) inland waterbodies are crucial for water storage and flood regulation, necessitating an improved understanding of their water volume. Traditional water volume measurement methods, modeling techniques, and advanced altimetry missions struggle to capture the non‐linear volume changes in these waterbodies ...

Optimizing Soil Moisture‐Runoff Coupling Strength With Remotely Sensed Soil Moisture for Improved Hydrological Modeling

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Hydrological models are typically calibrated using historical ground‐based streamflow observations to constrain model uncertainty. However, such a calibration strategy can lead to unrealistic model parameters and is not applicable in data‐sparse regions where streamflow observations are unavailable.
