Heights on ‘hybrid orbits’ in Shimura varieties

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 133, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract We prove the ‘hybrid conjecture’ which is a common generalisation of the André–Oort conjecture and the André–Pink–Zannier conjecture, in the case of Shimura varieties of abelian type.

Atmospheric Noise Forcing Increases Multiyear El Niño Events

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract Despite their pronounced climate impacts, the physical processes that control the frequency of multiyear El Niño events remain incompletely understood. Using an Interactive Ensemble (IE) coupling strategy, we find that atmospheric noise forcing plays an important role in modulating the frequency of multiyear El Niño events.

3D Water Vapor Signature of Tropical Storms: GNSS Tomography of the 10 Most Severe Rainfall Events in Hong Kong 2015–2025

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Monitoring water vapor during extreme events is crucial for understanding atmospheric physics, as well as for improving the prediction of severe weather and enhancing early warning systems. The major gap in monitoring water vapor during extreme events lies in the limited spatial and temporal resolutions of existing techniques.

Accelerated European Summer Warming Driven by Atmospheric Circulation Changes in Response to Aerosol Forcing

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Compared to observations, climate models underestimate the recent increase of European summer temperatures, due to an underestimation of Quasi‐stationary Rossby Wave (QSW) trends over Europe. This is partially due to unpredictable internal variability and partially due to an underestimation of the predictable signal in response to external ...
