Laparoscopic Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
Surgical Clinics of North America, 2005Preliminary results demonstrate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, knowing that the superobese patient carries a higher risk than the normal population or the regular obese patient. Future studies with larger numbers of patients should be able to demonstrate the effectiveness this procedure in ...

Emergency Surgical Conditions after Biliopancreatic Diversion
Obesity Surgery, 2007Urgent late complications of biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) are rare and often require the experience of a bariatric surgery team for their immediate resolution. The present work analyzes the incidence of emergency surgical conditions in a group of 138 patients who had undergone classical BPD, with a mean follow-up of 60 months (24-96) after BPD.Urgent

Laparoscopic Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
Surgical Innovation, 2002The biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch combines a sleeve gastrectomy with a duodenoileal switch to achieve maximum weight loss. Consistent excess weight loss between 70% to 80% is achieved with acceptable decreased long-term nutritional complications.

Phrynoderma is a type of follicular hyperkeratosis located primarily on the extensor surfaces of the extremities. Does Bone Change After Biliopancreatic Diversion?
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2002This prospective study evaluated bone changes after biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) consisting of a distal gastrectomy, a 250 cm alimentary channel, and a 50 cm common channel. Thirty-three consecutive patients had clinical, biochemical, and bone mineral density analysis before surgery and 4 and 10 years after surgery.

Laparoscopy-Assisted ERCP after Biliopancreatic Diversion
Obesity Surgery, 2007Therapeutic biliary endoscopy after biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) for morbid obesity is not possible through the anatomical route. In the case of a long excluded afferent limb, the possibility to reach endoscopically the papilla through a surgical gastrostomy or jejunostomy has been reported.

Outcome of Pregnancies after Biliopancreatic Diversion
Obesity Surgery, 2004Severe obesity has deleterious effects on fertility and pregnancy outcomes. Although surgery is the best long-term treatment for severe obesity, there is a risk of gestational undernutrition in operated mothers because bariatric surgery reduces nutrient availability.
