A new frontier of BIM process: Geotechnical BIM
2019Building Information Modeling (BIM) is widely used by civil engineers and architects to design structures and infrastructures. Actually, geological and geotechnical data are not used at all in the BIM design process, even though most of the risks and uncertainties of a construction derive from the unknown underground conditions.

In May 2008 Civil Engineering published a special report entitled “Are You Ready for BIM?” which discussed the benefits of a fairly new design process referred to as building information modeling. Six years later engineering firms of all sizes are finding that this type of modeling is essential if they are to remain competitive.

BIM AND BOM Bim and Born were a pair of clowns. They always performed together, and enjoyed enormous popularity. No one could remember Bim without Born, or Born without Bim-only that Bim-and-Bom and Bom-and-Bim made them laugh. It was unclear whether Bim played a particular role in the partnership, or whether Born had any special significance; perhaps ...

Modern construction projects can be designed, built and operated more efficiently and to a higher quality when knowledge is shared quickly and transparently. With BIM.5D®, STRABAG SE has been advancing the vision of a “digital construction site” since the late 1990s.

Paper lists modern approach of designing for infrastructure projects using BIM (Building Information Modelling) technologies. Constantly evolving and growing importance of BIM is expanding rapidly also in infrastructure projects, as it is almost standardly used in architecture.

This chapter looks at the contractual and legal implications of building information Modelling (BIM) for project team members. The Government Construction Clients Group suggested in March 2011 that ‘Little change is required in the fundamental building blocks of copyright law, contracts or insurance to facilitate working at Level 2 of BIM maturity.
