Bimodal distribution of serum tryptophan level

Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 1979
Serum levels of total L‐tryptophan (L‐TP) were determined before and during treatment in patients suffering from endogenous depression, who were treated with L‐TP, 6 g daily, and unilateral electro‐convulsive therapy (ECT). The gaussian curve of initial L‐TP concentrations changed into a bimodal distribution during treatment.

Genesis of Bimodal Distributions

Technometrics, 1964
Conditions for which the density function of a mixture of two normal distributions is bimodal are investigated. For fixed values of the variances σ1 2 and σ2 2 of the normal distributions if the difference between the means is sufficiently small, the distribution of the mixture will be unimodal, independent of the proportions p and 1 – p, 0 < p < 1. If

A characterization of a bimodal distribution

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 1978
As a sequel to Khlnchirie's definition of unimodality a bimodal distribution function is defined, A characterization for such a distribution is given using the well-known result of Khinchine on unimodality and a characterization theorem for a U-shaped probability density function by Ghosh and Shanbhag(1972).

Continuum analogue of bimodal distributions

Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, 2012
We consider the Boltzmann equation for the hard-sphere model. We construct an explicit approximate solution of this equation in the form of a continuum distribution in the case of global Maxwellians. We obtain some sufficient conditions for attaining the minimum of the uniform-integral mismatch between the sides of the equation.

Bimodal distribution. Are you sure?

Quality and Reliability Engineering International, 1993
AbstractThe paper points out complicated relations between the failure density function and the probability density function of logarithmic lifetime and practical consequences.

Bimodal distribution of cylinder fragments

Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves, 1991
The Weibull unimodal distribution satisfactorily describes only those cylinder fragment spectra produced from brittle steel explosively loaded by high-brisance explosives. To describe the bimodal spectra obtained from the loading of ductile steel cylinders by TNT charges and other low-brisance explosives, we propose a statistical model of the spectrum ...

A note on the representation of bimodal distributions

The Aeronautical Journal, 1983
Reference 1 provides the stimulus for this note, containing, as it does, a trap into which many engineers and statisticians fall. Referring to Fig. 6 of that paper (this was incorrectly labelled — it should have been Fig. 4), a set of observed data is presented on normal probability paper, together with a straight line representing the fitted normal ...
