A vectorized bimodal distribution based micro differential evolution algorithm (VB-mDE) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Micro differential evolution (mDE) refers to algorithms that evolve with a small population to search for good solutions. Although mDEs are very useful for resource-constrained optimization tasks, the research on mDEs is still limited.

Effects of resource-dependent cannibalism on population size distribution and individual life history in a case-bearing caddisfly. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Resource availability often determines the intensity of cannibalism, which has a considerable effect on population size distribution and individual life history. Larvae of the caddisfly Psilotreta kisoensis build portable cases from sedimentary sands and

Atomistic Mechanisms Triggered by Joule Heating Effects in Metallic Cu‐Bi Nanowires for Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bi doped metallic Cu nanowires are promising for spintronics thanks to the stabilization of a giant spin Hall effect. However, heat resulting from current injection forces Bi to leave solution, forcing segregation into monoatomic decorations which evolve into coherent crystalline aggregates.

On the bimodal distribution of gamma-ray bursts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1994
Kouveliotou et al. (1993) recently confirmed that gamma-ray bursts are bimodal in duration. In this paper we compute the statistical properties of the short ($\le 2$~s) and long ($>2$~s) bursts using a method of analysis that makes no assumption regarding the location of the bursts, whether in the Galaxy or at a cosmological distance. We find the 64

Mechanically Spatio‐Chimeric Fibrin Assembly Enables Vascular‐Integrated Muscle Reconstruction for Volumetric Muscle Loss Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
SPARC (spatio‐chimeric, plasma‐based, anisotropic, and shear‐responsive construct) that integrates myogenic and vascular microenvironments within a single construct. The dual‐modulus matrix directs aligned myotube formation and endothelial network development, enabling a vascularized muscle implant that seamlessly anastomoses with host tissue and ...

Rupture of multiple receptor-ligand bonds: Bimodal distribution of bond rupture force

open access: yes, 2012
Monte Carlo simulation of the rupture of multiple receptor-ligand bonds between two PMN cells suspended in a Newtonian fluid is performed. In the presence of a hydrodynamic drag force acting on two PMN cells the interplay of multiple receptor-ligand ...

Expression a La Bimode

open access: yesCancer Informatics, 2010
The recently published article by Wang, and commented on by Ertel in this journal, describes development of a method, named the Bimodality Index, to objectively identify and rank meaningful and reliable bimodal patterns from large-scale gene expression ...

Conformations of polydisperse polymer solutions : bimodal distribution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal de Physique, 1981
We use scaling arguments to construct the ’’phase diagram’’ of an athermal bimodal solution; i.e., a ternary system composed of long chains, short chains, and solvent. Qualitatively, the presence of short chains reduces the effective solvent quality as experienced by the long chains.
