Bimodal multicast

ACM Transactions on Computer Systems, 1999
There are many methods for making a multicast protocol “reliable.” At one end of the spectrum, a reliable multicast protocol might offer tomicity guarantees, such as all-or-nothing delivery, delivery ordering, and perhaps additional properties such as virtually synchronous addressing.

Relative Contingency and Bimodality

Logica Universalis, 2013
The paper studies the logics with a deontic operator \(O\) which is defined as \(OA =_{\mathrm{def}} \square(Q \supset A)\), where \(\square\) is logical necessity and \(Q\) is a propositional constant, axiomatized by \(\lozenge Q\) with the intuitive meaning ``the moral (legal) code is applied''.

Bimodality and the Nature of Depression

British Journal of Psychiatry, 1981
SummaryArguments concerning the nature of depressive disorders have involved as a central issue the question of the bimodality or otherwise of the distribution of some variable expressing variation in symptomatology. The implications of a particular type of frequency distribution along this dimension, whether uni- or bi-modal, have been misunderstood ...

Bimodal emotion recognition

Proceedings Fourth IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition (Cat. No. PR00580), 2002
This paper describes the use of statistical techniques and hidden Markov models (HMM) in the recognition of emotions. The method aims to classify 6 basic emotions (anger, dislike, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise) from both facial expressions (video) and emotional speech (audio). The emotions of 2 human subjects were recorded and analyzed.

Bimodal Crossing Minimization

2006
We consider the problem of drawing a directed graph in two dimensions with a minimum number of crossings such that for every node the incoming edges appear consecutively in the cyclic adjacency lists. We show how to adapt the planarization method and the recently devised exact crossing minimization approach in a simple way.

Electrokinetics in extremely bimodal suspensions

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2007
Prompted by the results obtained by Mantegazza et al. [Nature Physics 1 (2005) 103], where the electric birefringence of suspensions of elongated particles was strikingly affected by the presence of a sea of very small (size ratio lower than 10:1) colloidal spheres, we have undertaken an investigation of other electrokinetic phenomena in suspensions ...

Rosser Orderings in Bimodal Logics

Mathematical Logic Quarterly, 1989
The modalities \(\square\), \(\Delta\) are interpreted as provability in \(\Sigma_ 1\)-sound theories T, S, respectively, containing Primitive Recursive Arithmetic and such that S proves reflection for T. The witnes comparison connectives \(\prec\), \(\preccurlyeq\) are applied only to formulas beginning with modalities. The logic of (\(\square,\Delta)\

A Bimodal Distribution on the Sphere

Applied Statistics, 1982
SUMMARY A distribution is proposed as a model for spherical data concentrated about two directions in roughly equal proportions. This distribution, which has convenient computational properties, includes the Fisher distribution as a special case (that in which the modal directions coincide).

Bimodal Emotion Recognition

2010
When interacting with robots we show a plethora of affective reactions typical of natural communications. Indeed, emotions are embedded on our communications and represent a predominant communication channel to convey relevant, high impact, information.

Bimodal distribution removal

1993
A number of methods for cleaning up noisy training sets to improve generalisation have been proposed recently. Most of these methods perform well on artificially noisy data, but less well on real world data where it is difficult to distinguish between noisy data points from valid but rare data points.
