Modeling peatland hydraulic processes in cold regions requires defining near-surface hydraulic parameters. The current study aims to determine the soil freezing and water characteristic curve parameters for organic soils from peatland-dominated ...

Color bimodality: Implications for galaxy evolution [PDF]
We use a sample of 69726 galaxies from the SDSS to study the variation of the bimodal color-magnitude (CM) distribution with environment.

A bimodal double log-normal distribution on the real line is proposed using the random sign mixture transform. Its associated statistical inferences are derived. Its parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood method.

The interplanetary magnetic field: radial and latitudinal dependences [PDF]
Results of the analysis of spacecraft measurements at 1-5.4 AU are presented within the scope of the large-scale interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) structure investigation.

Fire frequency and fire seasonality are among the main components of the fire regime. In the Mediterranean Basin, climate directly drives fire occurrence, controlling fuel flammability and determining the fire-prone conditions, so that intense fires ...

Vacuum Dynamics as an Alternative Method for Detection of Bimodal Milk Ejection in Dairy Cows
The primary objective of our study was to assess the ability of a vacuum recorder to detect the presence of bimodal milk flow curves in dairy cows compared with a portable milk flow meter.

Bimodality in Damped Lyman alpha Systems
We report evidence for a bimodality in damped Ly systems (DLAs). Using [C II] 158 mu cooling rates, lc, we find a distribution with peaks at lc=10^-27.4 and 10^-26.6 ergs s^-1 H^-1 separated by a trough at lc^crit ~= lc < 10^-27.0 ergs s^-1 H^-1.

Dansgaard-Oeschger events: tipping points in the climate system [PDF]
Dansgaard-Oeschger events are a prominent mode of variability in the records of the last glacial cycle. Various prototype models have been proposed to explain these rapid climate fluctuations, and no agreement has emerged on which may be the more correct

Bimodality of hemispheric winter atmospheric variability via average flow tendencies and kernel EOFs
The topic of the existence of planetary winter circulation regimes has gone through a long debate. This article contributes to this debate by investigating nonlinearity in a 3-level quasi-geostrophic model and the Japanese JRA-55 reanalysis.
