Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams as Knowledge-Bases

open access: yes, 1999
We propose to make use of ordered binary decision diagrams (OBDDs) as a means of realizing knowledge-bases. We show that the OBDD-based representation is more efficient and suitable in some cases, compared with the traditional CNF-based and/or model ...

Effects of Mg on Microstructure and Solidification of a Hypereutectic Zn–8 wt.%Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An appreciable set of results involving thermal data, microstructure, chemical composition, and microstructural growth laws is reported for ZnAlMg alloys. Such results demonstrate that ZnAlMg alloys have high potential for applications in automotive self‐lubricating components, batteries, and electrical systems.

Cryogenic Deformation Behavior of TiAl and Insights Into Embrittlement After High‐Temperature Exposure Combined With Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy of Near Surface Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Near‐surface deuterium enrichment profiles for different microstructural types of TiAl after exposure at 700 °C in a heavy water‐containing environment. The deuterium levels are significantly higher than expected from natural occurrence, indicating that the heavy water dissociated during the exposure treatment and entered the specimens.

SPPsolver: a SAT-based algorithm for solving any stable paths problem correctly

open access: yesCybersecurity
The Stable Paths Problem (SPP) is a widely adopted model for analyzing the convergence of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). Solving SPP correctly is of great significance for determining BGP convergence.

Diagnosis of Discrete-Event Systems Using Binary Decision Diagrams

open access: yes, 2004
We improve the efficiency of Sampath's diagnoser approach by exploiting compact symbolic representations of the system and diagnoser in terms of binary decision diagrams. We present an algorithm for synthesising the symbolic diagnoser with promising

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Learning Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams

open access: yes, 1995
This note studies the learnability of ordered binary decision diagrams (obdds). We give a polynomial-time algorithm using membership and equivalence queries that finds the minimum obdd for the target respecting a given ordering.

Electrostatic Superlattices Beyond 1:1 Stoichiometry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer‐mediated charge regulation drives two hierarchical routes to higher‐stoichiometry nanoparticle superlattices. Tuning the polymer's molecular weight promotes progressive interstitial filling, transforming ZnS into the fully occupied CaF2${\rm CaF}_2$ lattice. Exchanging polymer assignment between large and small nanoparticles instead breaks CsCl
