Single Photon Kilohertz Frame Rate Imaging of Neural Activity. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh), 2022
The high temporal precision of single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) is leveraged to record neural activity reported by genetically encoded voltage indicators. Subthreshold and spiking activity of single neurons is resolved with shot noise limited signals at frame rates of up to 10 kHz.

The road toward imaging a black hole: A personal perspective

open access: yesNatural Sciences, Volume 2, Issue 4, October 2022., 2022
The article describes the authors personal journey towards developig the Event Horizon Telescope and the first image of a black hole. Left: predcition made by the author and collaborators proposing the black hole imaging in 2000. Right: the two images observed and published by the Event Horizon Telescope in 2019 and 2022.

A Bayesian algorithm for model selection applied to caustic-crossing binary-lens microlensing events [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2012
We present a full Bayesian algorithm designed to perform automated searches of the parameter space of caustic-crossing binary-lens microlensing events. This builds on previous work implementing priors derived from Galactic models and geometrical considerations.

Detecting Multiplanetary Systems with Gravitational Microlensing and the Roman Space Telescope

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
It is plausible that most of the Stars in the Milky Way Galaxy, like the Sun, consist of planetary systems, instead of a single planet. Out of the estimately discovered 3980 planet-hosting stars, about 860 of them are known to be multiplanetary systems ...

MOA-2020-BLG-208Lb: Cool Sub-Saturn-mass Planet within Predicted Desert

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We analyze the MOA-2020-BLG-208 gravitational microlensing event and present the discovery and characterization of a new planet, MOA-2020-BLG-208Lb, with an estimated sub-Saturn mass.

Distribution of caustic-crossing intervals for Galactic binary-lens microlensing events [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2000
Detection of caustic crossings of binary-lens gravitational microlensing events is important because by detecting them one can obtain useful information both about the lens and source star. In this paper, we compute the distribution of the intervals between two successive caustic crossings, $f(t_{\rm cc})$, for Galactic bulge binary-lens events to ...

Complete Parallax and Proper‐Motion Solutions for Halo Binary‐Lens Microlensing Events [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1999
A major problem in the interpretation of microlensing events is that the only measured quantity, the Einstein time scale t_E, is a degenerate combination of the three quantities one would like to know, the mass, distance, and speed of the lens. This degeneracy can be partly broken by measuring either a "parallax" or a "proper motion" and completely ...

Beyond Caustic Crossings: Properties of Binary Microlensing Light Curves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Binary microlensing light curves have a variety of morphologies. Many are indistinguishable from point lens light curves. Of those that deviate from the point lens form, caustic crossing light curves have tended to dominate identified binary lens events.
